Thursday, April 9

Carlo Ancelotti had previously confirmed Madrid's intention to appeal the yellow card and taken a swipe at referee Mario Melero Lopez.

As noted by Kieran Gill of Mail Online, Ronaldo was harshly adjudged to have taken a tumble inside the box following Antonio Amaya's mistimed tackle. Football Tweet posted a video of the incident:

Ancelotti wasn't happy, per Gill: "I told the referee that everyone saw it was a penalty. I told him it was incredible that he didn't award a penalty and that he showed Cristiano the yellow card."

While Lopez's failure to award a penalty didn't impact the result, Ronaldo would have been banned for Madrid's Saturday fixture with Eibar. Both Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez are confirmed to miss this match through the accumulation of five yellows each.

Ronaldo hit a landmark goal during the Vallecano match, per Squawka Football:

OptaJose broke down his 300 strikes:

Ben Hayward of Goal.com believes the Portuguese forward could yet face punishment after "a show of defiance and yet another controversial gesture that could land him in hot water." This appeared to happen after he scored on Wednesday night. It follows on from a recent incident which saw Ronaldo accused of grabbing his genitals toward referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz during the recent Clasico.
