UFC Fight Night 64: Main Card Betting Odds and Predictions

Sean SmithApr 8, 2015

More than three years since he last stepped into the Octagon, Mirko Cro Cop will return to the world's top MMA organization at UFC Fight Night 64 on Saturday.

The Croatian won't be returning with just any matchup, though. He'll have a chance to avenge an April 2007 loss to Gabriel Gonzaga, the most memorable loss in Cro Cop's long and storied MMA career.

With losses in two straight bouts, Gonzaga has been headed in the opposite direction. Napao is still ranked among the Top 15 UFC heavyweights, but he could potentially lose his spot on the UFC roster with a bad loss this weekend.

As another UFC event approaches, here is a look at the current odds, per Odds Shark, as well as predictions for all main card contests.

Joanne Calderwood (-550) vs. Maryna Moroz (+375)

1 of 4

Following a loss to eventual finalist Rose Namajunas on The Ultimate Fighter 20, Joanne Calderwood went on to pick up her first UFC win over Seo Hee Ham. It wasn't a victory that made a huge statement, but the performance gave Calderwood some valuable experience in front of a live UFC crowd.

Calderwood's UFC Fight Night 64 opponent Maryna Moroz won't have such experience to fall back on. The undefeated Ukraine native will be making her first trip to the Octagon this weekend. While promising, Moroz will be taking a big step up in competition to meet Calderwood.

With nine MMA bouts on her record, Calderwood isn't exactly a grizzled veteran. However, the Scottish strawweight has experience against high-level opposition, and that alone should give her a big advantage in her second UFC showing.

Prediction: Calderwood

Play: 1 percent bankroll on Calderwood

Pawel Pawlak (+160) vs. Sheldon Westcott (-200)

2 of 4

Both Pawel Pawlak and Sheldon Westcott came up short in their UFC debuts.

Pawlak was matched up with returning UFC veteran Peter Sobotta and fell in a unanimous decision. Meanwhile, Westcott reached the middleweight finals on TUF Nations before losing to Elias Theodorou.

Now competing at 170 pounds, Westcott shouldn't be overwhelmed by the size of his opponents.

While these two are very evenly matched, I think the pressure will really be on Pawlak in this bout. Not only could both men be battling for their UFC jobs but Pawlak will also be competing in front of his home crowd in Poland. I wouldn't bet big money on it, but Pawlak could fold under that weight.

Prediction: Westcott

Play: Pass

Jimi Manuwa (-165) vs. Jan Blachowicz (+135)

3 of 4

Following knockout wins in his first three UFC outings, Jimi Manuwa was paired with former title challenger Alexander Gustafsson. The bout resulted in Manuwa's first career loss, but it served as a learning experience for the dangerous Englishman.

Having competed against notables in Poland for years, Jan Blachowicz was no stranger to hardcore MMA fans when he made his UFC debut in October. For that reason, it wasn't too surprising when he picked up the upset win over Ilir Latifi.

At 35 and 32 years old, respectively, Manuwa and Blachowicz are not your typical UFC up-and-comers. The time is now for both men, and they will be looking to make a statement against one another on Saturday.

While Blachowicz has the ability to beat Manuwa on the ground, I do believe Poster Boy will be able to use his speed to keep distance and land shots without allowing his Polish opponent to tie him up.

Prediction: Manuwa

Play: 1 percent bankroll on Manuwa

Gabriel Gonzaga (-225) vs. Mirko Cro Cop (+175)

4 of 4

Gonzaga reemerged as a contender with a 4-1 record in his first five bouts since returning to the UFC roster. However, he's since lost two in a row and could be starting his final descent at 35 years old.

Meanwhile, at 40 years old, Cro Cop has won three of his past four bouts to earn his way back into the Octagon. Only three years ago, it looked like his career was over, but here Cro Cop is, headlining a UFC event in 2015.

That said, Cro Cop hasn't exactly been competing against elite opposition. Gonzaga, who already owns a win over him, will be a step up in competition.

Although he's been slumping, Gonzaga is still very dangerous when he utilizes his grappling. In a must-win situation, I think we'll see the Brazilian return to a ground attack, and he should be able to stop an aging Cro Cop should he get this to the canvas.

Prediction: Gonzaga

Play: 1 percent bankroll on Gonzaga
