WWE Extreme Rules 2015: Superstars Who Will Shine Under PPV Spotlight

Aaron BowerApr 8, 2015

After the enormous pressure, intensity and spotlight that WrestleMania naturally provides, Extreme Rules gives an opportunity for WWE Superstars to continue their momentum toward the next big show of the yearSummerSlam.

As a pay-per-view that provides more stipulations and extremity than at any other point of the year, Extreme Rules is often a show that WWE fans look forward to.

After a promising WrestleMania, hopes are high that the WWE will continue to ride on the crest of this wave it is on.

There will be some Superstars that will manage to shine brightly under the spotlight of Extreme Rules, too.

Take Daniel Bryan, for example. Bryan is no stranger to the WWE's intense spotlight, having been in the main event in many shows throughout his time with the company.

He's slated to compete in a match against Bad News Barrett. It can be viewed as a rematch for the title Barrett lost in a chaotic ladder match to Bryan at WrestleMania.

There's every possibility that an extra competitor or two could be thrown into the mix here, given how there's no clear directive yet for some of the stars who also competed in that ladder match.

In potentially throwing a stipulation into the mix here, it could be a night where we really do see the best from Bryan. Extraordinary matches are where Bryan often comes alive (think the Money in the Bank ladder match he competed in back in 2011).

He's even got previous experience at Extreme Rules, fighting Sheamus in 2012 in a rematch for that awful 18-second job Bryan did at that year's WrestleMania.

In fact, that leads nicely to the next guy that could thrive at Extreme Rules: Sheamus.

Many expected the Irishman would return prior to WrestleMania or at least on the actual night of the event.

In having him return on the night after WrestleMania and execute a nice heel turn, it means Sheamus is yet to make his return to pay-per-view action.

How the WWE will play out his first pay-per-view since returning from injury is a guess at this point. However, a contest against Dolph Ziggler could be a nice feud to have on the card at Extreme Rules.

Making a contest of that type no holds barred would be a scenario that would suit the brawling Irishman perfectly. If WWE is intent on making him a dominant, monstrous heel once again, it needs to unleash the real beast in Sheamus.

Finally, it's hard to ignore the two men who will be competing in the main event.

Sheamus would do well if he could pull off his comeback as well as Randy Orton has made his return. Ever since The Viper returned to our screens, he has worked well as a babyface. The rivalry with Seth Rollins has helped, as both men seem to have a remarkable chemistry.

Their match at WrestleMania was one of the best bouts of the night. Perhaps it's only viewed as an afterthought because Rollins won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship later in the night.

However, the rematch between Orton and Rollins will be sensational. If the WWE adds a touch of extreme to it, we could have a show-stopper on our hands. When Orton has been unhinged in the past and has gone extreme, it's made for very interesting television.

As for Rollins, it seems almost inevitable that he is going to continue to assert himself as one of the company's top star.

That's a mantra not many thought Rollins would have claimed when The Shield broke up.
