WWE Extreme Rules 2015: Full Card Predictions After WrestleMania 31
With fans still aglow after WrestleMania 31, WWE has already laid the foundation for Extreme Rules 2015.
In the week after the biggest show on the WWE calendar, rivalries have intensified, a warrior returned and a Diva has positioned herself as a title contender. Those stories, along with all the bad blood that WrestleMania created, make what to expect at Extreme Rules far from a mystery.
Seth Rollins will look to fend off a familiar adversary. Daniel Bryan will have an unenviable challenge ahead of him.
Fans can see all that forming as we speak.
So far, just John Cena vs. Rusev is booked for the upcoming pay-per-view. WWE has provided a wealth of hints in current storylines as to what bouts will fill up the rest of the card. Analyzing those bits of foreshadowing provides us with the following list of likely Extreme Rules matches.
The New Day vs. Prime Time Players (Pre-Show)
1 of 7Cesaro and Tyson Kidd don't have any clear contenders to deal with. They dispatched of The Usos, The New Day and Los Matadores at WrestleMania. They now likely wait for a squad to stand out and earn a shot at their championships.
Some brewing animosity between The New Day and The Prime Time Players looks as if it will help push one team into contention.
On Thursday's SmackDown, Titus O'Neil and Darren Young mocked Big E and company. That may just end up leading to a showdown on Raw, but it saving it for Extreme Rules makes it a bigger win for whoever comes out on top.
And there's no guarantee the tag titles will be on the line. Extreme Rules has skipped a Tag Team Championship in 2009, 2012 and 2014.
Luke Harper vs. Dean Ambrose
2 of 7A pair of brawlers who missed out on gold at WrestleMania will instead be on the hunt for vengeance.
Luke Harper and Dean Ambrose have collided a lot of late, including in the Intercontinental Championship Ladder match at WrestleMania, where the big man powerbombed Ambrose through two ladders. Following that, they clashed on last Thursday's SmackDown. Harper forewent winning and just decided to send Ambrose crashing through a table.
That points to further violence between them, and all the furniture involved in their fighting suggests they will destroy more WWE property at Extreme Rules.
Whether it's in a Falls Count Anywhere or Tables match, fans can count on The Lunatic Fringe and Harper leaving splintered wood behind as they continue their growing rivalry.
Daniel Bryan vs. Bad News Barrett vs. Sheamus vs. Dolph Ziggler (IC Title)
3 of 7The crowded nature of the Intercontinental Championship picture won't be changing anytime soon. Daniel Bryan had to fight off six other men to win that title. He will find he has to fend off another wave of challengers at Extreme Rules.
Sheamus, Bad News Barrett and Dolph Ziggler are all heavily involved in the stories surrounding the IC title.
The Celtic Warrior returned on last week's Raw to lay waste to both Bryan and Ziggler. He followed that up by pounding Bryan on SmackDown and promising to take out all the company's underdogs. His count-out win against Bryan will put him in the discussion for a title shot.
As for Barrett, he is owed a rematch after losing the strap. He has not let anyone forget that, either.
The fact that he attacked Bryan to help get Sheamus a win also suggests that he is not fading from title contention.
Ziggler's part in Sheamus' attack, his recent battles with Bryan and his chemistry with the champ, Barrett and Sheamus make it highly likely that he finds his way into the ring with all those men come Extreme Rules.
Naomi vs. Nikki Bella (Divas Championship)
4 of 7Maybe this would have been AJ Lee's spot, but her retirement over the weekend gives Naomi fans reason to celebrate.
Rather than AJ following up pinning Nikki Bella at WrestleMania with a chance at the title, it's been Naomi who has been stockpiling momentum. The former Funkadactyl pinned Nikki in a tag match on the Raw after WrestleMania. She then scored a big win over Natalya on SmackDown.
That puts the spotlight on Naomi.
The Divas Championship picture has been mostly a cycle of the same names in recent months. Naomi offers a fresh face and an alternative option now that AJ is no longer competing.
The Miz vs. Damien Mizdow
5 of 7
The explosion everyone saw coming happened at WrestleMania. Damien Mizdow finally stood up to The Miz, tossing him over the top rope and going into business for himself.
WWE has not let up on the animosity between these two men since.
The Miz blasted Mizdow after his battle with Stardust last Monday. Mizdow responded on SmackDown, leaving The Miz flat on his back post-match.
This feud has just begun. WWE can milk a lot of drama out of it, beginning with a showdown at Extreme Rules. The company has a number of options for what gimmick match it goes with, but there's little doubt that Miz and Mizdow will be featured on the pay-per-view in some form.
Roman Reigns vs. Big Show
6 of 7While some of Extreme Rules serves as the first stages of long, violent epics, Big Show vs. Roman Reigns will serve as a final chapter.
Reigns will eventually get a chance at Seth Rollins, but the champion will be busy on this night. Instead, The Juggernaut will wrap up his ongoing feud with Big Show in a placeholder bout of sorts.
In the course of going after Rollins, Reigns is sure to run into The Authority. That's an easy way to send Reigns after the giant once more. These two never had the pay-per-view match that fans expected thanks to Reigns instead taking a detour to step in the ring with Daniel Bryan.
Big Show winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania gives him momentum, at least on paper. That potentially makes a Reigns victory here a bigger deal.
Expect him to be the launchpad for Reigns, who charges back into contention for the world title in the coming months.
Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)
7 of 7After Seth Rollins ended WrestleMania with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship clutched to his chest, he had a trio of angry men looking to take that title from him.
Brock Lesnar's post-WrestleMania rampage got him suspended. That leaves just Randy Orton and Roman Reigns as potential challengers. Rather than go with another main event Triple Threat, WWE has hinted that The Viper will get the first strike.
It was Orton who confronted him at Thursday's SmackDown, recapping their rivalry and reminding him that he has never received the world title rematch he has long been owed.
Going with Orton vs. Rollins at Extreme Rules also allows that feud to fully wrap up before Reigns gets more involved. As merciless as these two enemies have been against each other, a Street Fight or similarly brutal match is the perfect way to end this story.
It also assures that Rollins' first title defense will be a quality one. He and Orton have excelled each time they have squared off.
