Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Radamel Falcao, Andreas Pereira Rumours

James DudkoApr 5, 2015

Manchester United could be prepared to wave goodbye to Radamel Falcao just one summer after agreeing a bumper loan deal for the AS Monaco striker. Instead, the Red Devils will pursue Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani and Palermo forward Paulo Dybala, while Falcao potentially heads back to Spain, per Sunday Express reporter Anthony Chapman.

Real Madrid are keen on the Colombian, despite his struggles finding the net since arriving in the Premier League. Chapman cited unnamed "Spanish media outlets" claiming Los Blancos "are willing to pay as much as £32 million" for Falcao.

United will do nothing to match the bid because, as Chapman also notes, Red Devils gaffer Louis van Gaal has "no interest" in signing Falcao on a permanent basis.

The Dutchman's reticence is perhaps understandable despite Falcao's pedigree as a top goalscorer. Yet that reputation was established and honed before the 29-year-old arrived at Old Trafford.

Falcao was lethal for Porto, then even better with Los Merengues' capital-city rival, Atletico Madrid. But a serious knee injury shortly after moving to Ligue 1 in 2013, appears to have robbed Falcao of his sharpness and short-area quickness.

In fact, B/R analyst Sam Tighe believes Falcao is no longer sharp enough for clubs like United and Los Blancos:

He's managed just four Premier League goals this season, according to WhoScored.com, and he's done little to even add menace and threat to United's forward line.

Now Van Gaal's squad has little use for the Colombian since Wayne Rooney finally moved back to this best position. United simply play better when the England international is the focal point of their attack.

Falcao would be left to compete with Robin van Persie. But both are natural No. 9's who want to be their team's primary goal-getter.

Van Persie may even follow Falcao through the exit door. The brittle Dutchman is sidelined with an ankle injury, one Van Gaal confirmed will rule him out of the upcoming Manchester derby, per BBC Sport.

The 31-year-old has even been linked with a move to Turkish club Fenerbahce, per Mirror reporter Aaron Flanagan.

Van Gaal would certainly be justified if he dismissed both Falcao and Van Persie before refreshing United's options up front.

PSG Target Pereira

United's desire to keep 19-year-old Andreas Pereira in the fold will be tested by mega-rich Ligue 1 giants PSG. Manchester Evening News writer Samuel Luckhurst suggested the French club will offer the precocious Brazilian €30,000 per week, while United have offered a mere £6,000 in weekly wages.

Pereira seems set for an untimely Old Trafford exit.

Luckhurst also drew the obvious comparison with Paul Pogba. The French midfield colossus famously split from United to move to Juventus in 2012 over a lack of playing time.

Since leaving Old Trafford, Pogba has rapidly developed into perhaps the most complete midfield player in Europe's top five leagues. United want to avoid a similar loss, but Pereira has been advised to leave, according to Luckhurst.

Losing Pereira would be a symbolic blow for a club that's often prided itself on a willingness to let young talent flourish. But in recent years, United have become increasingly defined by their many big-money signings.

Not doing more to keep Pereira would be a pretty clear indicator of where the club's priorities lie when it comes to building a winning team.

Van Gaal knows he needs to tinker with things in attack ahead of next season. Staying away from a permanent deal for Falcao is smart.

But letting a youthful gem like Pereira walk would send the wrong signal about the importance of a core club value.
