WWE WrestleMania 31 Results: Instant Classic Moments from PPV

Erik BeastonMar 30, 2015

In today's World Wrestling Entertainment, WrestleMania moments are more coveted than championships, pride or dignity. The allure of accomplishing something truly special on the grandest stage in professional wrestling, etching one's name in the history books and living in immortality for decades to come, trumps all other accomplishments. This inspires a roster full of talented individuals to work harder and better to achieve their goals.

Sunday night, in front of 76,000-plus fans in Santa Clara, several Superstars from both past and present were part of moments that were not only the most notable of the show but some of the most iconic in the event's history.

Just a day removed from the show, take a trip back to Levi's Stadium and relive the classic moments that captured the imaginations of the audience and led to universal praise for the 31st incarnation of The Showcase of the Immortals.

The Monday Night Wars Reignited

The showdown between D-Generation X and the New World Order that ensued during Sunday's match between Sting and Triple H was a moment straight out of Fantasy Booking 101. It was a callback to the Monday Night Wars, which had been referenced quite regularly throughout the build to the match between The Stinger and The Game (and is the title of a show on the WWE Network that documented the rivalry between WWE and WCW in the late 1990s).

Watching Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan and Scott Hall go toe-to-toe with X-Pac, Billy Gunn and Road Dogg, all while Triple H and Sting waged war inside the squared circle, was a great tip of the hat to the '90s.

Shawn Michaels' appearance late in the bout, which saw him plant Sting with Sweet Chin Music, was a nice touch that further intensified the heat for the contest.

Sure, Triple H won, but by night's end, the most memorable aspect of the entire match was the appearances of the nWo and DX, which created a moment fans would have died to see back in 2001 but welcomed with open arms some 14 years later.

...What The Rock and Ronda Are Cookin'

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon really should have chosen their words more carefully. After taking credit for the WrestleMania attendance record, Triple H implied that they owned the people and all of the boys and girls in the back. That claim brought out The Rock, who made another surprise appearance this year.

The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment told the two Authority leaders that they own no one, drawing the ire of Stephanie, who wound up slapping the multi-time world heavyweight champion.

This led to The Rock recruiting Ronda Rousey from ringside and entering the ring, where the two mainstream stars laid the smack down on The Authority in a moment that threatened to steal the show.

That is, until the main event.

Seth Rollins Cashes In

Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns fought a hell of a heavyweight fight Sunday night, complete with blood and brutality.

But as invested as the crowd became in the finish of the match, that same crowd reacted even louder and more passionately when Seth Rollins rushed the ring and captured the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to close out what was a phenomenal WrestleMania telecast.

It was a brilliant heel move, the likes of which firmly established The Architect as the lead villain in WWE.

Pyro exploded from the stage and the top of the stadium as Rollins celebrated his win, Lesnar and Reigns left stunned and physically drained after a vicious and violent contest.

It was a moment that will live on in fans' memories, and it was a truly historic occurrence as Rollins became the first Money in the Bank winner to cash in at The Showcase of the Immortals.
