Ranking the 100 Greatest WrestleMania Matches of All Time

The Doctor Chris MuellerMar 27, 2015

WrestleMania 31 has several bouts that all have the potential to steal the show, and those that manage to impress will be added to the long list of great matches from the biggest pay-per-view in wrestling.

WrestleMania has produced hundreds of matches over the past three decades. Some were awful, some were passable, and then there are those select few that become unforgettable.

Who doesn't remember Hulk Hogan slamming Andre the Giant at WrestleMania 3 or The Ultimate Warrior winning the WWF Championship at WrestleMania 6? What about the night Edge and Christian helped reinvent the Ladder Match with the Hardys and the Dudleys?

Big events like this make people nostalgic. We all like to look back through history and debate what the best matches were and which Superstars had the best performance.

This slideshow will rank the top 100 matches in the history of WrestleMania. Each bout will be included for different reasons. The criteria will include things such as memorability, importance to history, entertainment value, technical ability and how important these matches were to the careers of those involved.

Without further ado, let's get to No. 100 on the list.

100. The Undertaker vs. Big Show and A-Train WrestleMania 19

1 of 100

The Undertaker has been one of the biggest WrestleMania attractions since his first match at the event over 20 years ago, but not every bout was as legendary as the streak itself.

At WrestleMania 19, Undertaker battled A-Train and Big Show in a handicap match. While they had the size advantage, The Undertaker had an ace up his sleeve in the form of Nathan Jones.

Jones helped Taker put down his two massive opponents in a match that had some good moments but ended up being a flop overall.

Jones wouldn't last long in WWE, but at least he can say he got to be part of The Undertaker's legacy for a short time, and that is something to be proud of.

99. The Undertaker vs. King Kong Bundy WrestleMania 11

2 of 100

King Kong Bundy is one of those guys who is often overlooked when discussing the most talented big men in the business. He was no technical master, but he helped put over some of the biggest stars by being the most intimidating stepping stone you could find.

When The Undertaker and Bundy went to war at WrestleMania 11, it looked like the streak was in danger of ending before it really got started.

This wasn't a spectacle by any means, but it's a bout important to the history of The Undertaker. It was one of the first times Taker faced someone who dwarfed him in size, and it was here where he proved that he was almost unstoppable.

This won't be a match you will see in many highlight reels, but if you watch it on the WWE Network, you will see how invested the fans were in this performance.

98. NFL Battle Royal WrestleMania 2

3 of 100

WWE has been bringing in athletes and celebrities since WrestleMania's inception, and its cross-promotional strategy was in full swing at WrestleMania 2 when some of the NFL's best took on WWE Superstars in a Battle Royal.

Andre the Giant would end up winning the match, but one of the best parts for a kid who grew up in that era was watching William "The Refrigerator" Perry throw down with wrestlers.

Perry was the star of the match with his big personality and obvious appreciation for the importance of this bout to the success of the event.

When it comes down to it, wrestling is all about fun, and this was one of those bouts that was fun from beginning to end. If you watch this match, you will see Brat Hart show signs of being a future star by lasting to the very end.

97. Batista vs. Umaga WrestleMania 24

4 of 100

Umaga was a talent who left this earth far too early, but his legacy will live on through the many great matches he had against some of the biggest stars in WWE.

Facing Batista at WrestleMania 24 was a huge opportunity for the Samoan Bulldozer. Batista was a major star at the time, and getting to face him on the biggest show of the year was a career highlight for Umaga.

It may not stand out to some, but just the fact that Batista was able to powerbomb someone of Umaga's size was impressive enough to get this match on the list, even if it is toward the bottom.

96. Sgt. Slaughter vs. Hulk Hogan WrestleMania 7

5 of 100

Hulk Hogan was the face of WWE for many years, but he had plenty of challengers who pushed him to his limit. One of them was Sgt. Slaughter.

Slaughter ended the Ultimate Warrior's reign as WWF champion, making him look like the greatest heel in the business. However, his reign only lasted two months.

At WrestleMania 7, two of the most patriotic wrestlers of all time squared off in the main event for the WWF Championship. It was two showmen doing what they do best for over 20 minutes.

Technical ability was not the focus here. This was about two powerhouses beating the hell out of each other for the biggest prize in wrestling. It was the epitome of what a main event should be.

95.Lawrence Taylor vs. Bam Bam Bigelow WrestleMania 11

6 of 100

You don't see a celebrity actually suit up and get in the ring often, let alone wrestle in the main event at WrestleMania. They are usually relegated to gimmick bouts or something comical, but not Lawrence Taylor.

Taylor was no wrestler, but with a competent opponent like Bam Bam Bigelow, he ended up looking better than anyone thought he would.

This was a special attraction in every sense of the word, which made the fact that it wasn't a dud the happiest surprise of the night.

Bam Bam was one of the most underrated talents in WWE at the time, so it was great to see him put in the main event of WrestleMania to validate all his hard work.

94. Battle Royal WrestleMania 4

7 of 100

Who doesn't love a good Battle Royal? It's a fun way to feature dozens of Superstars in a match where it feels like anyone has a chance to win.

At WrestleMania 4, a trophy was going to be presented to the winner of a 20-man Battle Royal. It came down to Bret Hart and Bad News Brown.

Hart and Brown formed an alliance toward the end that saw them team up to eliminate Junkyard Dog. Hart thought they would share the trophy, but Brown double-crossed him and tossed Hart out.

Hart took his frustrations out on Brown and the trophy after the match, creating one of the most memorable WrestleMania moments of his career in the process.

93. Team Hell No vs. Dolph Ziggler and Big E WrestleMania 29

8 of 100

Kane and Daniel Bryan formed one of the most entertaining tag teams in WWE history known as Team Hell No. Their constant bickering and one-upmanship were all part of what made them fun to watch.

At WrestleMania 29, the two former world champions defended their tag titles against Dolph Ziggler and Big E in a match that really got the crowd into the WrestleMania spirit.

Bryan and Ziggler were the two who really stole the show in this one, but Big E and Kane definitely pulled their weight. Big E and Ziggler weren't able to take the titles from Bryan and Kane, but at least they looked good while losing.

92. Shane McMahon vs. Vince McMahon WrestleMania 17

9 of 100

The battle between father and son has been documented in legends, fables, myths and real history for millennia. It makes for great drama.

When Shane McMahon became a fixture on WWE programming, it seemed like it was just a matter of time before he tried to take down his own dad.

At WrestleMania 17, the patriarch of the McMahon family went to war with his offspring in a match less about wrestling and more about the story. Linda and Stephanie McMahon were involved, which turned it into a true family affair.

Shane would get the win over his father with his signature Coast-to-Coast dropkick, proving once again that the members of the McMahon family will take the same risks as anyone who works for them.

91. Cody Rhodes vs. Rey Mysterio WrestleMania 27

10 of 100

Cody Rhodes has been involved in many great feuds, but the one that cemented him as a future top star was with Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 27.

Rhodes was becoming one of the best heels in WWE during that time, but he never had a major victory over a top star at a big event. That's where Mysterio came into play.

Mysterio is arguably one of the most recognizable wrestlers in the world, and putting over the young star at WrestleMania helped Rhodes' career tremendously.

On any other night, this match probably would have stolen the show. Rhodes used every tool in his kit to combat the high-flying tactics of Mysterio and pick up the win.

90. Money in the Bank WrestleMania 26

11 of 100

For half a decade, the Money in the Bank Ladder Match was one of the biggest highlights of every WrestleMania.

The last time a handful of Superstars reached for a briefcase at the biggest show of the year was in 2010, when Jack Swagger overcame nine other Superstars in the biggest MITB match in history.

Swagger went on to successfully cash in his title shot to become the World Heavyweight champion, but his time at the top would be limited. The last five years have not been kind to Mr. Swagger.

Despite his fall from grace, Swagger was a good choice at the time. Giving someone who is young and hungry a chance is not something WWE management is known for, which made Swagger's win that much more impressive.

89. The Undertaker vs. Mark Henry WrestleMania 22

12 of 100

One of The Undertaker's less memorable WrestleMania matches was against the World's Strongest Man, Mark Henry.

While it doesn't match up to his bouts against Shawn Michaels and Triple H, Undertaker and Henry did a good job playing to each other's strengths.

Henry doesn't get enough credit for how good he really is. This is a guy who has more agility than anyone his size has a right to possess and more power than 99 percent of the human race.

To see such a powerful opponent face off against The Undertaker is enough reason to make anyone want to see this match. It probably would have been better had it not been a Casket Match, but that stipulation is as synonymous with Taker as his urn, so it made sense at the time.

88. Triple H vs. Owen Hart WrestleMania 14

13 of 100

Triple H and Owen Hart were constant rivals when DX was first getting off the ground, and their match at WrestleMania 14 was their greatest chapter.

Hart was one of WWE's most technically gifted performers. Triple H was no slouch, but Hart made him look better just by being in the ring with him.

Unfortunately for the youngest Hart brother, Triple H would end up retaining the European Championship that night, but they created a memorable match together.

This bout was overshadowed by Undertaker vs. Kane and Austin vs. Michaels, but anyone looking to relive the past will find great pleasure in watching this classic again.

87. Rick Rude vs. Ultimate Warrior WrestleMania 5

14 of 100

Rick Rude was one of the most entertaining heels in WWE during his run, and one of his greatest rivalries was with The Ultimate Warrior.

On a night headlined by Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage, it was hard for anyone to steal the spotlight, but these two came the closest.

Warrior was defending his Intercontinental Championship against Rude, who had Bobby Heenan in his corner to help win the title by nefarious means.

Warrior would eventually regain the belt, but this night belonged to Ravishing Rick Rude. It's criminal that he isn't in the Hall of Fame.

86. Hulk Hogan and Mr. T vs. Paul Orndorff and Roddy Piper WrestleMania 1

15 of 100

The first WrestleMania was a huge hit, so Vince McMahon had to make sure he had an even bigger show planned for the following year. Not only did he use celebrities to draw attention to the product, he put them in the ring.

Mr. T teamed up with Hulk Hogan to face Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff in one of the most memorable main events in WWE history.

Hogan and Orndorff had some history, but it was Piper and Mr. T who really made this feud entertaining. Both were at the height of their careers, and they wanted to make sure everyone was talking about them the next day, not Hogan and Orndorff.

It might not be a technical clinic, but this match defined what a main event at WrestleMania should be for many years.

85. Mickie James vs. Trish Stratus WrestleMania 22

16 of 100

WrestleMania might have a history of producing great moments, but the Divas have never been represented well at the event. They are either put into a gimmick match or left out to dry.

However, two amazing wrestlers managed to break the mold and get on the list, and their names are Trish Stratus and Mickie James.

Stratus and James are two of the best female wrestlers in the history of WWE because they are just as physical as the men. If you want to see two of the greatest Divas in their prime, check out this WrestleMania match. You won't be sorry.

If every current Diva worked as hard as these two women, the #GiveDivasAChance movement wouldn't have been necessary in the first place.

84. Hulk Hogan vs. Vince McMahon WrestleMania 19

17 of 100

Everyone wants to fight their boss at some point in their life, which made Hulk Hogan's match against Vince McMahon something everyone wanted to see.

Hogan helped build WWE into the powerhouse it is today, but McMahon was the real brains behind the operation. When Hogan returned from WCW, it seemed like it was just a matter of time before he entered into a program with the chairman.

McMahon was not a major character during Hogan's initial run with the company, but that changed in the years he was working for Ted Turner.

Few pairs have as much history between them as Hogan and McMahon. The storyline practically wrote itself, and the match proved both men were still willing to put their bodies on the line for the sake of the show. It was bloody, violent and so entertaining.

83. Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon WrestleMania 26

18 of 100

Hogan and McMahon built WWE together, but no wrestler had as much real heat with McMahon as Bret Hart.

It all started when McMahon screwed Hart out of the WWE title the night before he was set to leave the company for WCW. It was known as the Montreal Screwjob, and it is a moment every wrestling fan knows about.

For over a decade, it seemed like we would never see Hart back in a WWE ring, but they say time heals all wounds. Hart and McMahon buried the hatchet and decided to work together to give the fans something they had wanted to see for many years.

The match they had at WrestleMania 26 was all about giving Hart one last moment in the spotlight. Thanks to some help from his family, he was able to best the chairman and get one last big win to cap off his incredible career.

82. The Undertaker vs. Jimmy Snuka WrestleMania 7

19 of 100

The Undertaker's first WrestleMania opponent was a legend in his own right. Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka was a big name at the time, which made him the perfect person to put over a man who would be instrumental to WWE's success in the coming years.

This bout may not stand up next to some of Taker's more memorable matches, but it wasn't meant to. This was designed to make Undertaker look like a force to be reckoned with, and it did just that.

For more than two decades following this match, The Undertaker was untouchable at WrestleMania, and it all started in 1991 against Snuka.

81. John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt WrestleMania 30

20 of 100

Bray Wyatt is a rare breed. He looks like someone you would avoid at a truck stop, but he is actually one of the most entertaining and intelligent wrestlers working today.

Every time he picks up a microphone, magic happens. He has had some great feuds in the few years since his debut, and one of them was against John Cena.

With Cena being the poster boy for WWE, it made perfect sense to pair him with someone who was the exact opposite. Their gimmicks made their feud feel organic, and the matches they put on together helped elevate Wyatt to a new level.

Wyatt didn't win, but he didn't need to in order to make a statement. All he needed to do was have a great match against a huge star, and that is exactly what he did.

80. Ted DiBiase vs. Randy Savage WrestleMania 4

21 of 100

Randy Savage holds a special place in the hearts of wrestling fans around the world, and one of his most memorable achievements was winning the WWF Championship at WrestleMania 4.

The card was jam-packed with 16 matches, most of which were part of a tournament designed to crown a new champion. Savage wrestled three bouts before facing Ted DiBiase in the final round.

Even with Andre the Giant in his corner, DiBiase's heelish tactics couldn't overcome Macho Man's tenacity and desire to be champion.

At a time when Hulk Hogan was considered the biggest star in the world, Savage managed to steal the show at the biggest event of the year. Nobody deserved it more than he did.

79. The Shield vs. Kane and New Age Outlaws WrestleMania 30

22 of 100

This time last year, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns were still operating as a cohesive unit, and they had found themselves battling The Authority.

In an effort to put them down for good, Triple H brought in Road Dogg and Billy Gunn to team with Kane to face The Shield in a six-man tag team match at WrestleMania.

Proving they had discovered the Fountain of Youth, Road Dogg and Gunn looked as good in the ring as they did 10 years ago.

This match might not have been as long as some would have liked, but all six men managed to pack a lot of excitement into the time they had.

78. Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan WrestleMania 28

23 of 100

It might seem weird that one of the shortest matches in WrestleMania history made the list, but this bout was incredibly important.

Daniel Bryan may have lost the World Championship that night, but he gained more momentum than he ever could have with a win.

The 18-second match doesn't define Bryan or Sheamus, but it created enough buzz to push both men further up the ladder.

Sometimes it's more important for something to be memorable than good, and this was definitely one of those times.

77. Big Show vs. John Cena WrestleMania 20

24 of 100

John Cena's career started when he confronted Kurt Angle on an episode of SmackDown, but it really took off after he defeated Big Show at WrestleMania 20 for the United States Championship.

The response to Cena's win was deafening, and it showed that the fans were ready to embrace him as the top star in the company after only having been there a short couple of years.

Even the hardcore fans who boo Cena out of every arena were on his side that night as he hoisted Big Show onto his shoulders and delivered what would be the first of many Attitude Adjustments to opponents much larger than him.

It's not always easy to pinpoint when a wrestler goes from the middle of the pack to the front, but with Cena, it can easily be traced back to this match.

76. The Undertaker vs. Jake Roberts WrestleMania 8

25 of 100

Jake "The Snake" Roberts was one of the best at playing with his opponents' minds and fears, but he met his match when he faced The Undertaker at WrestleMania 8.

Roberts' pet snake wasn't enough to mess with the head of someone who fancied himself the most demonic Superstar in WWE history.

Not only did he survive two of Roberts' signature DDTs, but he delivered a Tombstone Piledriver on the floor to put his opponent to rest.

This wasn't Taker's first time winning at WrestleMania, but it was the night when it became clear it would be a long time before he would lose.

75. The Miz vs. John Cena WrestleMania 27

26 of 100

The Miz first revealed his intentions to headline WrestleMania when he was on The Real World, and he achieved his dream 10 years later when he faced John Cena for the WWE Championship.

His victory may have been overshadowed by The Rock's involvement in the match, but he still defeated Cena in the main event, and that is something nobody can ever take away from him.

The Miz and Cena put on a great performance together. Their styles and personalities made them the perfect opponents, but it's their passion that makes them more alike than most realize.

You probably only remember how The Rock influenced the outcome, but go back and watch this match in its entirety again. You will definitely appreciate the skill of both Cena and The Miz.

74. The Undertaker vs. Sid WrestleMania 13

27 of 100

It's not often that someone comes along who can stand eye to eye with The Undertaker, but WWE found that person with Sid Vicious.

The match they had at WrestleMania 13 was a physical fight due to the no disqualification stipulation. Bret Hart even came down and attacked Sid with a steel chair.

One of the most memorable things about this match was that Sid actually countered the Tombstone Piledriver and used it on The Undertaker. When Taker kicked out, you knew it was all over for the champ.

Sid went into this match as WWE champion, but Undertaker was the one who left with the belt.

73. Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal WrestleMania 30

28 of 100

The first Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal felt like just another excuse to fit a bunch of people on the WrestleMania card who didn't have a major storyline, but it ended up being so much more than that.

Cesaro not only won the match, he did it by eliminating Big Show with an impressive display of strength. Show even shook Cesaro's hand after it was over to show respect to the Swiss Superman.

Cesaro didn't get the boost we all hoped he would from winning, but this is a moment that will definitely be on his highlight reel when he is inducted into the Hall of Fame in 20 years.

It's just too bad he didn't get to keep the trophy long.

72. The New Age Outlaws vs. Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie WrestleMania 14

29 of 100

The New Age Outlaws are one of the best tag teams to ever wrestle in WWE, and their match with Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie at WrestleMania 14 showcased what makes all four men favorites among wrestling fans.

Seeing Mick Foley and Terry Funk team up was a dream come true for fans of extreme wrestling, and the two icons did not disappoint.

The crowd was as into this match as anything else on the card. All four men put everything on the line to make this a memorable show, and they accomplished that goal.

This bout was just plain fun from bell to bell.

71. Randy Orton vs. John Cena vs. Triple H WrestleMania 24

30 of 100

Triple H, John Cena and Randy Orton in a WWE Championship match had money written all over it. All three men are popular for different reasons, and seeing them collide at WrestleMania 24 showed why they are three of the most successful Superstars of all time.

This bout was entertaining and extremely well booked. Any wrestling fan could find something to like in this one, even the most critical.

Seven years later, all three men are still major attractions on the WrestleMania card. If that doesn't speak to their longevity, nothing will.

If you have the WWE Network, go watch this match. It might give you a new appreciation for all three men after seeing the kind of performance they gave us that night.

70. Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Ted DiBiase WrestleMania 26

31 of 100

Randy Orton was once an ally to Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase, but when that alliance broke down, they ended up in a match against one another at WrestleMania 26.

All three men share a similar history as sons of WWE legends, but it was their off-the-charts technical ability that made this match special.

Rhodes and DiBiase were still aligned when this match happened, but they eventually found themselves fighting each other as the bout went on.

Orton picked up the win, proving that it was not yet time for the students to surpass the teacher.

69. Triple H vs. Rock vs. Big Show vs. Mankind WrestleMania 2000

32 of 100

WrestleMania main events have almost always been singles matches, but when the new millennium ushered in a new era in WWE, it seemed appropriate to give WrestleMania 2000 something bigger.

Triple H, The Rock, Mick Foley and Big Show are four of the most different wrestlers you could imagine, but when you put them in the ring together, you are bound to get a great performance.

The thing that made this feud interesting was that each participant was backed by a different member of the McMahon family. Stephanie stuck with her husband, Vince supported The Rock, Linda was with Foley and Shane sided with Big Show.

When the dust settled, Triple H retained his title against three Superstars who were all capable of taking it away from him.

68. The Shield vs. Randy Orton, Sheamus and Big Show WrestleMania 29

33 of 100

The Shield was looking to make a big impact at WrestleMania 29, and it did just that by defeating Big Show, Sheamus and Randy Orton.

Three former world champions seemed like the perfect way to take The Shield off the pedestal it had built for itself, but they couldn't overcome the chemistry Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose had built as a team.

The Shield turned teamwork into an art form during its time together, and this match is a perfect illustration of those skills.

Rollins took a few big risks to make this match exciting, but everyone involved deserves credit for getting WrestleMania 29 off to a great start.

67. Bret Hart vs. Yokozuna WrestleMania 10

34 of 100

Bret Hart and Lex Luger were co-winners of the Royal Rumble in 1994. This led to Yokozuna defending his title twice at WrestleMania 10. He retained against Luger in the first bout but was unable to stop The Hitman in the main event.

Taking on someone with the size of Yokozuna would be tough for even the strongest wrestler, and Bret Hart was never known for his power. It was an uphill battle, to say the least.

When Hart finally won the title, the locker room emptied. Everyone was in the ring congratulating him on the biggest win of his career, except his brother Owen.

The Hart brothers had fought earlier in the night, with Owen defeating his older brother. The fact that Bret went on to win the title got under Owen's skin and set in motion a feud that would last several years.

66. Money in the Bank WrestleMania 23

35 of 100

The Money in the Bank Ladder Match is always exciting. Add in Ladder Match specialists like Edge, Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy and CM Punk, and you have a recipe for success.

This bout was filled with insane risks, countless finishers and some of the most popular wrestlers of the time. On a night where John Cena and Shawn Michaels headlined, the men involved in the MITB match stole the show.

Mr. Kennedy would end up winning the briefcase, but he wouldn't get the chance to cash it in before getting injured. He was forced to drop the case to Edge in a match on Raw, but he will always have this victory to look back on with fond memories.

Edge would go on to become the first person to ever successfully cash in the title shot twice and the only person to win the briefcase outside of a Ladder Match.

65. Batista vs. Triple H WrestleMania 21

36 of 100

When Batista won the Royal Rumble in 2005, it looked like Evolution was going to add another championship to the stable. Triple H was already world champion, and he was encouraging Batista to go after the WWE title.

Unfortunately for The Game, Batista had his sights set on the belt Triple H had. The match they had at WrestleMania 21 proved Big Dave was ready for the main event.

Triple H was already a seasoned veteran by this point in his career, and with the history he had with Batista, he was the perfect person to bring him to the next level.

Winning the title at WrestleMania was the first step Batista took on the road to becoming one of the most popular Superstars in WWE.

64. Triple H vs. Randy Orton WrestleMania 25

37 of 100

Heading into their match at WrestleMania 25, Randy Orton took being a heel to a whole new level by attacking anyone associated with Triple H, including his wife.

Orton and Triple H have several years of history as both allies and enemies. This wasn't the first time they fought over a title, but it was the first time Orton had the upper hand heading into the match.

They took each other to the limit that night, pulling out every trick they had to put the other down. Orton came close several times, but in the end, he was unable to beat The Game.

Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker definitely had the Match of the Night, but Orton and Triple H gave them a run for their money.

63. The Rock vs. John Cena WrestleMania 28

38 of 100

Nobody expected The Rock to ever return to WWE, let alone wrestle another match, but he did just that three years ago.

Dwayne Johnson left WWE in 2004 to pursue an acting career. Several films and countless millions of dollars in ticket sales later, The Rock was feeling homesick.

When he agreed to face John Cena a full year before the match took place, he set the wrestling world on fire. Fans rejoiced as their hero chose to face the man who essentially took his place, and those same fans lost their minds when he defeated Cena at WrestleMania 28.

Their match will never be looked at as great on a technical level, but it will be remembered as legendary. If you are a fan of either of these men, chances are good you were glued to the screen when this match took place.

62. Triple H vs. Booker T WrestleMania 19

39 of 100

When WCW Superstars began invading WWE, Booker T was one of the few people to fight his way to the main event level.

He competed against some of the biggest stars in WWE, and one of his best matches was against Triple H at WrestleMania 19.

They were never going to match the intensity Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle displayed in their bout, but they came as close as anyone could.

Booker T earned his spot in the Hall of Fame with matches like this, and it's only a matter of time before Triple H joins him.

61. The Undertaker vs. Diesel WrestleMania 12

40 of 100

Diesel and The Undertaker were two of the biggest stars of the early '90s, which made their match at WrestleMania 12 highly anticipated.

These two giants among men put each other through the ringer. Kevin Nash was at his physical best, but even he couldn't compete with The Undertaker's power and skill.

Their performance was heavily overshadowed by Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart's Ironman Match, but they still managed to put on a great show for the fans.

It's been almost 20 years since this match took place. A large percentage of WWE fans weren't even alive when it happened, but everyone should take some time to check it out.

60. Bobby Lashley vs. Umaga WrestleMania 23

41 of 100

Donald Trump and Vince McMahon have a competitive friendship, and they brought it into a feud that resulted in McMahon having his head shaved in front of millions of people around the world.

Even though everyone remembers the image of McMahon screaming as his hair was buzzed off, it was Bobby Lashley and Umaga who made this match great.

Lashley was being built up as the next big Superstar at the time, and Umaga was already known as the most dominant heel in WWE. Putting them together was the best move for everyone.

Umaga's agility and power against Lashley's wrestling ability and strength made for a great combination. It's too bad Lashley chose to leave when he did; he could have been a huge star by now.

Umaga left this world too soon, but his legacy will live on because of matches like this.

59. Bret Hart vs. Bob Backlund WrestleMania 11

42 of 100

Bob Backlund was at his peak in the '70s and '80s, but he showed everyone he could still throw down with the best by facing Bret Hart at WrestleMania 11.

At the time, they were two of the most successful champions in WWE history. Both were known for their technical ability and submission finishers.

Backlund evolved his character from the generic babyface he used to be to an unhinged heel. He was insanely entertaining and created a persona still remembered fondly to this day.

With Roddy Piper as the special guest referee, Backlund and Hart put on a match that rivaled anything else on the card.

58. John Cena vs. Batista WrestleMania 26

43 of 100

For a number of years, Batista was the face of SmackDown and John Cena was the face of Raw. It seemed inevitable that the two would eventually clash, and it finally happened at WrestleMania 26.

This was as physical as any other match taking place that night. Both men are ridiculously strong, so they were able to put each other through hell.

Batista walked into the match as the WWE champion, but John Cena walked out with the title. This match is not likely to end up on anyone's top 10 list, but it was definitely worth seeing.

57. Christian vs. Chris Jericho WrestleMania 20

44 of 100

A beautiful woman has come between two friends more times than pi has digits, and that is exactly what happened with Christian and Chris Jericho.

The two Canadians were great friends and partners, but Trish Stratus was too gorgeous not to draw the attention of both men.

When they met at WrestleMania 20, Trish was on Jericho's side, but before the match was over, she had betrayed him and joined up with Christian.

All the drama only added to the excitement. Both men have tremendous technical ability, and they put their skills on display for the world in a great match.

56. John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels WrestleMania 23

45 of 100

Whenever two top stars from two different generations face off at WrestleMania, it always feels special. That was never more true than when Shawn Michaels faced John Cena at WrestleMania 25.

Michaels is known as Mr. WrestleMania because he always steals the show, and when he gets in the ring with an opponent, he forces them to rise to his level.

You can say what you want about John Cena, but on this night, he proved he was capable of having a great match with anybody.

HBK helped Cena solidify himself as the top dog in WWE by helping realize his true potential in this encounter. This was the last time Michaels would fight for the WWE title at WrestleMania, but it would not be the last time he would tear the house down at the event.

55. The Undertaker vs. Kane WrestleMania 14

46 of 100

The Undertaker had already earned his status as a legend by the time Kane made his debut, but the Big Red Monster breathed new life into his fake brother's career.

After nearly a yearlong build, the two finally faced each other at WrestleMania 14. It was a brutal encounter that saw both men leave everything they had in the ring.

It looked like Kane might be the first person to defeat Undertaker at the annual extravaganza, but after three Tombstone Piledrivers, Kane was put to rest.

They would go on to have an on-again, off-again partnership over the years, but fans will always remember them best as bitter rivals.

54. Money in the Bank WrestleMania 25

47 of 100

At WrestleMania 25, CM Punk entered the record books by becoming the first person to win two Money in the Bank Ladder Matches, and he did it two years in a row.

Punk climbed over Christian, Shelton Benjamin, Kane, Finlay, MVP, Kofi Kingston and Mark Henry to reach the briefcase and earn himself a shot at the world title.

Everyone took big risks in this match, even the guys who aren't normally known for throwing caution to the wind. Punk had already been a world champion, but this was the first time he really felt like a main event Superstar.

53. Diesel vs. Shawn Michaels WrestleMania 11

48 of 100

Lawrence Taylor and Bam Bam Bigelow may have closed the show at WrestleMania 11, but the true main event was Shawn Michaels vs. Diesel for the WWF Championship.

The two had been close friends before going their separate ways, and it was just a matter of time before they ended up on opposite sides of the ring.

Kevin Nash has never been known for his technical ability, but he was able to keep up with Michaels throughout the entire match.

52. Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Hardy WrestleMania 25

49 of 100

Matt and Jeff Hardy are one of the most popular tag teams in the history of pro wrestling, but at WrestleMania 25, they were bitter rivals.

Matt was playing the jealous older brother to perfection during this whole program. He acted like he was a truly terrible person, even going as far as to run his brother off the road.

They had a string of encounters with different stipulations, but not one was as brutal or exciting as the Extreme Rules Match they had at WrestleMania.

Matt would end up winning this battle, but Jeff won the war in the end.

51. Kane vs. Big Show vs. Raven WrestleMania 17

50 of 100

The Hardcore Championship is a title that was treated differently than other belts, not just because of the stipulation that came with every title defense, but because it was a championship held by such a wide variety of Superstars.

Everyone from former world champions to guys on the bottom of the card held the title at one point or another. The title changed hands 234 times before it was retired, and it was held by 59 different people. It was also different because it was one of the few belts that ever changed hands at house shows.

Many memorable matches have been fought for this title, but few were as entertaining as Kane vs. Raven vs. Big Show on WrestleMania 17.

Kane would end up victorious that night after the three men fought all over the arena. They destroyed everything in sight while crashing through tables and walls. They even used a gold cart.

It was bloody, violent and as brutal as any other match that night. It's too bad this fight gets overlooked because of everything else that happened that night.

50. Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero WrestleMania 21

51 of 100

Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio was as close to being family as you could get without any blood relation, so when they faced off at WrestleMania 21, it felt more personal than your average match.

They weren't enemies at the time. In fact, they were tag team champions together, but they felt the need to prove who was better in a singles match.

The show they put on was a clinic of technical maneuvers and high-flying offense. The chemistry they displayed is the kind of thing that only comes with several years of working together.

On a night filled with big marquee matches, Guerrero and Mysterio managed to outshine just about everyone. The only bout that could be considered as good or better from the same year was Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels.

49. Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H WrestleMania 29

52 of 100

Brock Lesnar has had a lot of big matches since he returned to WWE a few years ago, and one of his best was against Triple H at WrestleMania 29.

Lesnar had been on a rampage, hurting anyone who looked at him the wrong way. The only way anyone was going to stop him was in a No Holds Barred Match.

These two gladiators used anything and everything they could find to beat the living hell out of each other. After several finishers and submission holds, Triple H finally put Lesnar away with a Pedigree.

The Rock vs. John Cena match may have been the big attraction that year, but Lesnar and Triple H made sure everyone remembered their encounter at the end of the night.

48. The Undertaker vs. Randy Orton WrestleMania 21

53 of 100

Randy Orton used to be known as The Legend Killer, and one of the names he set his sights on taking out was The Undertaker at WrestleMania 21.

Orton has come a long way in the 10 years since this match, but at the time, he was too young and cocky to take out The Dead Man.

As the youngest man to ever face Undertaker at WrestleMania, Orton put forth an incredible effort. You have to rise to Undertaker's level when you face him, and Orton did just that.

He may have lost the match, but Orton earned a new level of respect from the fans by going toe to toe with one of the greatest of all time.

47. Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle WrestleMania 2000

54 of 100

One of the most unique title matches to ever take place at WrestleMania featured Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit challenging Kurt Angle for both the European and IC titles.

The bout was split up into two falls, with the first being for the IC title and the second being for the European Championship.

In one night, Angle lost both of his belts to two different men. Angle, Benoit and Jericho were three of the best technicians of the time, and they put on a match anyone would be proud of.

46. Evolution vs. Rock 'N' Sock Connection WrestleMania 20

55 of 100

The Rock and Mick Foley were the most unlikely pair to ever form a partnership, but that is part of what made them so easy to love. They brought out the best in each other every time they stepped in the ring.

The Rock's final WWE match for seven years took place at WrestleMania 20, when he teamed up with Foley in a handicap match against Randy Orton, Ric Flair and Batista.

The Rock 'n' Sock Connection were unsuccessful that night, but they helped Batista and Orton become bigger stars by putting them over. If this had been Rock's final match in his wrestling career, it would have been a good way to go out.

45. The Undertaker vs. Ric Flair WrestleMania 18

56 of 100

The Undertaker and Ric Flair represent two different kinds of wrestlers. Flair is the realistic playboy, while Undertaker is the unrealistic demon. These characters don't often work well together, but their legendary status in the business outweighed the difference in gimmicks.

Flair was still going strong at this point in his career despite being one of the oldest members of the roster. When he faced The Undertaker, he brought everything he had and left it in the ring.

Like everyone that came before him, Flair was unable to keep The Dead Man down, but the show they put on proved once again that Flair was one of the greatest wrestlers to ever lace up a pair of boots.

44. Randy Orton vs. CM Punk WrestleMania 27

57 of 100

Randy Orton and CM Punk are very different people outside the ring, but they have many similarities inside it. Tattoos aside, it's the way they both use psychology in their matches that puts them in a different class than everyone else.

When they met at WrestleMania 27, it was like watching the Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton of wrestling square off.

Punk was the leader of the new Nexus at the time, but he opted to go it alone against The Viper. That may have been a mistake on his part since he ended up losing the match.

Punk and Orton had some great battles, and this was arguably the best of the bunch.

43. The Rock vs. John Cena WrestleMania 29

58 of 100

We never thought we would see John Cena face The Rock, but it ended up happening twice. Their feud spanned two full years, and when it was all over, Cena was WWE champion.

The Rock suffered an injury early in the match, which led to him taking fewer risks than he probably would have otherwise, but the match was still a lot of fun to watch.

You just don't get to see two guys who were the leaders of different eras face each other often, and it was only appropriate that it happened on the biggest night of the year in the main event.

We don't know for sure if The Rock will ever set foot in the ring again. If this is the final match in his storied career, it's not a bad way to be remembered.

42. Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair WrestleMania 24

59 of 100

Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels were like two peas in a pod. Both men had given their lives and bodies to the business, and it was only appropriate that HBK face Flair in his final WWE match.

It was an emotional night for everyone involved. Flair had been inducted in the Hall of Fame the previous night, and you could tell his time as a wrestler was coming to an end.

The match they put on was truly something to behold. Even at his advanced age, Flair was able to put on an amazing show against one of the greatest performers of all time.

You could hear Michaels tell Flair he loved him before kicking him in the face for the 1-2-3. It was a career-defining moment for both men, and a bout wrestling fans will never forget.

41. Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk WrestleMania 28

60 of 100

Chris Jericho doesn't often find someone who can keep up with him on the mic, but he met his match in CM Punk.

They had a very personal feud that saw Jericho bring Punk's family into the storyline by insulting them on national television.

Punk is a pro in every sense of the word, so he was able to fire back every time Jericho went over the line. When they finally got in the ring at WrestleMania 28, it was a war.

They brought out the best in each other that night. Any DVD release for Punk or Jericho would have to include this match. It's too good to leave out.

40. Stone Cold vs. Shawn Michaels WrestleMania 14

61 of 100

Shawn Michaels vs. Steve Austin was enough to get any fan excited for WrestleMania 14. Add in Iron Mike Tyson as the special guest referee, and you have the formula for an unforgettable encounter.

Leading up to the match, Tyson had aligned himself with DX and gotten into a physical altercation with Austin, but it was all a trick orchestrated by The Rattlesnake to defeat the leader of DX at his own game.

Austin and Michaels are two of the most popular wrestlers in WWE history, and this match was the pinnacle of their feud. It's just too bad Michaels would end up being forced to take four years off due to injury because if he hadn't, they could have had several more incredible matches.

39. Money in the Bank WrestleMania 22

62 of 100

The second Money in the Bank contract was up for grabs at WrestleMania 22. Rob Van Dam went on to defeat Matt Hardy, Shelton Benjamin, Ric Flair, Finlay and Bobby Lashley to claim the prize.

RVD, Hardy and Benjamin provided most of the exciting spots, but Lashley, Flair and Finlay all brought their A-game that night, too.

RVD went on to defeat John Cena for the WWE title and become the first person to ever hold the WWE and ECW Championships at the same time.

RVD hasn't been booked as a top star since then, but he earned his place in the annals of history by putting on great performances like this one.

38. The Undertaker vs. Triple H WrestleMania 17

63 of 100

WrestleMania 17 is one of the few shows where the majority of the matches made this list, and this is one of the matches that made it such a great card.

It's hard to believe it was 14 years ago that Triple H first fought The Undertaker at WrestleMania. They were both at their physical peak, and they beat each other senseless for the better part of 20 minutes.

One of the most memorable spots was when Taker chokeslammed Triple H off a scaffold and then delivered an elbow drop from the same structure. It was one of those times when the WWE Universe was forced to use an expletive to show its appreciation.

This match likely contributed to many attending fans losing their voices from cheering so much.

37. The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar WrestleMania 30

64 of 100

We never thought it would happen. We didn't want to believe he was mortal. We didn't want to accept it when he finally lost.

The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak had become the biggest attraction at WrestleMania. Every year, someone would step up to challenge The Dead Man, and every year he would send them packing.

Triple H, Kane and Shawn Michaels all tried multiple times but failed to defeat him. It took an absolute beast to finally put him down, and that beast was named Brock Lesnar.

Throughout the match, you could tell The Undertaker was no longer the force he once was, and when the ref's hand hit the mat for the final count, it didn't seem real. The silence after the match told the whole story.

36. Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton WrestleMania 22

65 of 100

Rey Mysterio set a record by winning the Royal Rumble after competing for longer than anyone else in the event's history, and he would go on to win the world title a few months later at WrestleMania 22.

Randy Orton and Kurt Angle helped Mysterio put on one of the greatest matches of his career. Several other bouts from that night made the list, but this was the most emotional by far.

Mysterio dedicated this match to Eddie Guerrero after he passed away, and it felt like Eddie was right there cheering him on as he held the belt above his head in victory.

We may have seen the last of Mysterio in a WWE ring, but we will always have matches like this to remember him by.

35. The Undertaker vs. Edge WrestleMania 24

66 of 100

Edge and The Undertaker had some great matches over the years, and one of the most memorable was the main event of WrestleMania 24.

It was one of the handful of matches The Undertaker competed in at the big event where a title was on the line, and like all the other times, he left with the gold.

Edge was at his best as a heel during this time, and The Undertaker had already reached legendary status. Had this bout never taken place, it would be on everyone's list of dream matches.

34. Money in the Bank WrestleMania 24

67 of 100

WrestleMania 24 was a night where several memorable matches took place, but one that stands out among the rest is the Money in the Bank contest.

CM Punk won his first briefcase at the event by defeating six other Superstars in one of the most exciting Ladder Matches we have ever seen.

It's hard to believe this was seven years ago. Punk has accomplished so many thing in his career, but his run as a main event player all started when he climbed the ladder and grabbed the briefcase.

If you were to put out a compilation of Punk's best matches, this one would have to be included.

33. Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit WrestleMania 17

68 of 100

Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle shared a lot of characteristics, but the trait that defined both men was their enviable technical ability.

They wouldn't have even needed a storyline to get people interested. All they would have had to do was book the match and people would have lined up to see it.

This was one of Angle's first WrestleMania appearances, and the Olympic gold medalist did not disappoint.

32. Edge vs. Mick Foley WrestleMania 22

69 of 100

Nine years ago, Mick Foley was still being put through tables and taking chair shots to the head, but you could tell his career was winding down.

If there was anyone who could give Foley the match of his life at WrestleMania, it was Edge. Foley was the king of hardcore, but Edge is not someone to be overlooked when it comes to violence.

The moment when Edge Speared Foley off the apron into a flaming table is the kind of thing you just can't forget. If you had to pick Foley's best WrestleMania moment, this would be it.

31. Money in the Bank WrestleMania 21

70 of 100

The first Money in the Bank Match was unlike anything we had ever seen. Six men fought to grab a briefcase above the ring containing a guaranteed title shot at the time of his choosing.

Chris Jericho, Edge, Chris Benoit, Shelton Benjamin, Kane and Christian destroyed all expectations and delivered one of the best performances of the night.

Edge won the match and eventually cashed in the title shot to win the world title. This stipulation has become one of the most popular in WWE, and hopefully it continues to be a yearly event for a long time.

30. The Undertaker vs. Triple H WrestleMania 28

71 of 100

Triple H must believe in the saying "The third time's the charm." After two losses to The Undertaker at WrestleMania, he still thought he could beat The Dead Man.

All three of their matches were incredible, but this was their final battle. It felt like a different fight than the other two because it wasn't about a title or revenge. It was about two guys trying to prove who was best.

They decided to go to war in the match both men had become synonymous with over the years: Hell in a Cell. With Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee, it was billed as "The end of an era."

Even with a little help from HBK, Triple H was unable to achieve victory, but at least he was able to add one more great match to his WrestleMania legacy.

29. Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H WrestleMania 30

72 of 100

Daniel Bryan holds a rare distinction in WWE as a man who wrestled two incredible matches at the same WrestleMania.

Triple H and Bryan didn't hold anything back in this one. Even though Bryan still had to compete later in the night, he wrestled like it was going to be his last match.

While they have countless differences, the one thing that makes Triple H and Bryan more alike than they realize is their passion for the business. They both showed it at WrestleMania 30 by almost stealing the show in the opening match.

Triple H has been accused of burying his opponents, but on this night, he did everything he could to make Bryan look like the star that he is.

28. Roddy Piper vs. Goldust WrestleMania 12

73 of 100

The exact point where the Attitude Era started is debatable, but there is one match that could be credited with taking WWE from a PG show to the more violent product we had for many years.

Goldust and Roddy Piper competed at WrestleMania 12 in a Hollywood Backlot Brawl that changed both Superstars forever.

Goldust went from being a creep to someone who seemed legitimately dangerous, and Piper went from being a little nuts to being full-blown insane.

The match began outside, but after an O.J. Simpson-style chase in a white Bronco, they ended up in the arena. Piper won what ended up being one of the most violent matches of either man's career.

27. Chris Jericho vs. Edge WrestleMania 26

74 of 100

Edge and Chris Jericho have been tag team champions together, but at WrestleMania 26, they found themselves battling for the World Heavyweight Championship.

It's hard to go wrong when you have two guys who have mastered the performance aspect of the sport. The promos leading up to the match were amazing, and their showdown was worthy of being a WrestleMania main event.

Unfortunately, they were competing on a night when several other big matches were taking up the spotlight, but Edge and Jericho are not the kind of wrestlers who rest on their laurels. On any other night, this match would have outperformed anything else.

26. The Rock vs. Stone Cold WrestleMania 19

75 of 100

The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin fought at WrestleMania three times, and the final meeting happened at WrestleMania 19.

It was the only time a championship wasn't on the line, and it was also the only time The Rock was ever able to defeat Austin on the grandest stage of them all.

While not the best of their series, this match was certainly one for the ages. Any time you take two guys of this caliber and put them in the ring together, it's going to be a lot of fun.

With Austin in great shape and The Rock likely returning for a match or two down the line, it's always possible we could see them have one more match, but if this was their final chapter, they wrote a good ending to their story.

25. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho WrestleMania 19

76 of 100

Heading into WrestleMania 19, Chris Jericho made it clear he used to idolize Shawn Michaels. If you followed Jericho's career, you knew he wasn't lying.

Jericho and Michaels share so many of the same traits. They can both wrestle on the mat, strike with precision and fly through the air.

The match they put on at WrestleMania 19 wasn't for any title or prize. They simply wanted to see who was the better of the two, and HBK prevailed.

It seemed like they respected each other when the bout was over, but Jericho kicked HBK in the groin and went right back to being a heel.

24. The Undertaker vs. Batista WrestleMania 23

77 of 100

Batista and The Undertaker had a long feud that lasted the better part of a year, and their match at WrestleMania 23 was one of the highlights.

This was when Taker was still performing more than once a year and Batista was in his prime. It was the perfect time to put them together for a major program.

The thing that made their storyline so great was that both men were good guys. It's not easy to pull off a feud like that for as long as they did.

Batista wasn't able to defeat The Undertaker, but he earned Taker's respect by pushing him to his breaking point.

23. Triple H vs. Chris Benoit vs. Shawn Michaels WrestleMania 20

78 of 100

Shawn Michaels, Triple H and Chris Benoit represent three very different kinds of wrestlers, which is probably why they made for such a great matchup.

Benoit winning the title and celebrating with Eddie Guerrero was an incredibly satisfying moment for all the fans who had watched both men claw their way to the top.

Triple H and Shawn Michaels deserve to be recognized for their performances at WrestleMania 20. Without them, the show wouldn't have been nearly as memorable.

22. The Undertaker vs. Triple H WrestleMania 27

79 of 100

When The Undertaker defeated Shawn Michaels and forced him to retire, it left Triple H without a buddy to help him play pranks on the boss. Naturally, this led to him seeking revenge on the man responsible.

Triple H didn't care about breaking the streak. All he wanted to do was beat the man who ended his friend's career.

These two veterans threw everything they had at each other, and it even seemed like Triple H would be the man to break Taker's undefeated record, but it was not meant to be.

The Undertaker prevailed and added yet another classic match to his already long resume.

21. Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton vs. Batista WrestleMania 30

80 of 100

There is always a Superstar who connects with the current generation of fans on a deeper level than anyone else, and that person for this generation is Daniel Bryan.

Keeping Bryan down only made the crowd cheer louder, and having him overcome the odds time and time again turned him into the underdog everyone loves to cheer for.

The only reason Bryan was inserted into the main event of WrestleMania 30 was because the fans were so vocal about their displeasure with Batista winning the Royal Rumble.

Bryan, Randy Orton and Batista had a hard task to follow The Undertaker's surprising loss to Brock Lesnar, but the crowd was as lively as ever by the end of the match.

To see thousands of people express such deep emotion when Bryan won the title makes you realize why you love wrestling in the first place. Moments like these make all the bad moments worth suffering through.

20. The Undertaker vs. CM Punk WrestleMania 29

81 of 100

The Undertaker and CM Punk could not possibly be any different, but that is part of what made their feud so much fun to watch.

Both men like to play mind games with their opponents but in completely different ways. The build to their match at WrestleMania was so entertaining because both of them have a good grasp on the psychology of wrestling.

Their match at WrestleMania 29 proved that The Undertaker could still hang with the younger guys on the roster, but you could tell it wasn't as easy as it used to be.

Punk was the final opponent The Undertaker bested before his streak was broken by Brock Lesnar, but he earned a lot of respect by looking like a real threat to Taker's record.

19. Hardys vs. Dudleys vs. Edge and Christian WrestleMania 2000

82 of 100

Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon may have brought the Ladder Match to WrestleMania, but Edge and Christian, the Hardys and the Dudleys made it legendary.

These three teams helped usher in a new golden era of tag team wrestling, and this encounter allowed them to do that.

All six men took more damage to their bodies than everyone else on the card combined. They brought chairs and tables into the mix and took risks no normal person would even consider.

Edge and Christian may have won, but everyone involved came away from this match with the love and respect of the entire WWE Universe.

18. Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar WrestleMania 19

83 of 100

Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar were two of the most accomplished amateur wrestlers to ever wrestle for WWE, and the match they put on at WrestleMania 19 was a testament to the skills of both men.

The thing about this contest that separated it from the rest of the card was that both men went outside of their comfort zones, especially Lesnar.

When he came down on his neck after attempting a shooting star press, everyone thought he was dead or paralyzed. Then he got up and kept going. If that isn't superhuman, nothing is.

Angle was so moved after the match that he broke character and hugged Lesnar. That kind of emotion isn't produced by a mediocre performance.

17. The Rock vs. Stone Cold WrestleMania 15

84 of 100

The Rock and Steve Austin had many great battles over the years, and it all started with their first big main event at WrestleMania 15.

Austin defeated Rocky to win the WWF Championship, setting in motion a feud that would last several years and define both men's careers.

The in-your-face style of Austin against the flashy style of The Rock created the perfect clash of personalities, but it was the intensity both men brought to the ring that made their matches special.

16. Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold WrestleMania 13

85 of 100

Bret Hart and Steve Austin had some classic encounters, but the best of the best was their match at WrestleMania 13.

Austin went into the show as a heel and Hart went in as a babyface, but when the night was over, they had switched places. Pulling off a double turn is extremely hard, but it worked perfectly.

Ken Shamrock's presence as the special guest referee was an afterthought because Hart and Austin pushed each other harder than they had ever been pushed before.

That image of Stone Cold's bloody face as he screamed in pain was haunting. Nobody else came close to matching the performance put on by these two Hall of Famers that night, and there has never been a double turn pulled off as effectively as this one.

15. Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle WrestleMania 20

86 of 100

Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle are two of the most naturally gifted wrestlers to ever lace up a pair of boots, so it came as no surprise to anyone that they put on one hell of a match at WrestleMania 20.

Angle was a top star in WWE, but this was the night where Guerrero finally took his rightful place next to him.

The term "instant classic" gets thrown around quite a bit, but this was one of the times where it was completely appropriate. When Guerrero had his hand raised at the end of the match, you could feel the joy from the crowd come through the screen.

14. Shawn Michaels vs. Kurt Angle WrestleMania 21

87 of 100

Shawn Michaels and Kurt Angle are without a doubt two of the best wrestlers in history, and when they faced each other at WrestleMania 21, they proved why they earned that distinction.

There was no title on the line. This was all about pride. Angle was looking to prove he was the best technical wrestler in the world against a guy who made a name for himself stealing the show at every WrestleMania.

While it might not be the best match in WrestleMania history, it's one of the greatest examples of two guys who lived and breathed the business going out and putting everyone else on the card to shame.

When WWE releases its next compilation of the best WrestleMania matches of all time, you can bet this match will be one of the first it selects for inclusion.

13. The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan WrestleMania 18

88 of 100

What happens when you take two of the biggest draws in WWE and put them in a match together? You get one of the most entertaining matches in WrestleMania history.

Hulk Hogan and The Rock were cut from the same cloth. They were born to be wrestlers and entertainers, and they both created moments that will be remembered long after they are gone.

When WWE and WCW were at war with each other over ratings, this seemed like a dream match we would never see. But thanks to Vince McMahon buying his competition, we got our wish.

The crowd went back and forth all night. One moment they were cheering for The Rock, the next they were screaming Hogan's name. That kind of magic can only be created organically.

12. Razor Ramon vs. Shawn Michaels WrestleMania 10

89 of 100

Shawn Michaels is known as Mr. WrestleMania because he has stolen the show at just about every event he has been a part of, and WrestleMania 10 was where it all started.

He had been in matches at the big event before, but never quite like this. His Ladder Match with Razor Ramon was unlike anything that had ever happened at WrestleMania, and it propelled both men to new heights—literally and figuratively.

Michaels often gets the credit because he took the biggest risks, but it was Ramon who actually won by climbing the ladder and grabbing both belts.

Dozens of Ladder Matches have taken place, but this one will always hold a special place in the event's history.

11. Bret Hart vs. Roddy Piper WrestleMania 8

90 of 100

The Intercontinental Championship was once known as the workhorse title. The men who held it were usually putting on better matches than those in the world title scene, and a great example of that is the bout that took place at WrestleMania 8.

Roddy Piper and Bret Hart were perfect for each other, and they put on what was easily the best match of the night. Piper went into it as a heel, but he emerged a hero. Granted, it was because he chose not to cheat when he had the chance.

Hart and Piper used every bit of their technical and brawling skills in this encounter, but it was the emotional performance from both men that really stood out.

10. Randy Savage vs. Ultimate Warrior WrestleMania 7

91 of 100

The Ultimate Warrior may have had a career-defining match against Hulk Hogan the year before, but that didn't stop him and Randy Savage from stealing the spotlight at WrestleMania 7.

Savage was an incredible wrestler who could make anyone look good, so when he got in the ring with someone as limited as Warrior, he helped him reach a new level.

Savage would eventually go on to work for WCW and continue building his legacy, but he never reached the same level of fame or prominence as he had in WWE.

This is another one of those bouts that every wrestling fan should take the time to watch. It will likely give you a new appreciation for both Warrior and Savage as performers.

9. The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels WrestleMania 26

92 of 100

The moment Shawn Michaels put his career on the line against The Undertaker at WrestleMania, we all knew his time was up.

Because he knew he was leaving for good, Michaels put on one of the greatest performances of his career, and The Undertaker kept up with him the entire time.

When you have two guys with countless injuries and more miles in the ring than anyone else on the card, you don't expect them to outperform the younger guys who still think they're invincible, but that is what HBK and Taker did that night.

Michaels' retirement left a hole in WWE that may never be filled again, but at least we can always go back and watch incredible matches like this to remember why we loved him so much.

8. Hardys vs. Dudleys vs. Edge and Christian WrestleMania 17

93 of 100

WrestleMania 17 had more great matches than any other pay-per-view in WWE history, but none were as entertaining as the first Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match.

Edge and Christian, the Hardys and the Dudleys redefined the Ladder Match the previous year, but they took things to a whole new level in 2001.

Never before had fans witnessed six men put themselves through more tables, jump off more ladders or take more chair shots. It was a beautiful train wreck.

The moment when Edge Speared Jeff Hardy out of the air while he was hanging by the title belts has been shown almost as many times as Hogan slamming Andre.

Tag team wrestling was at its peak during this time, and these three teams were the reason why.

7. Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart WrestleMania 10

94 of 100

There have been many sets of brothers who have come and gone in the wrestling business, but the most beloved set is Bret and Owen Hart.

Stu Hart trained all his sons to be wrestlers, but Bret and Owen were the ones who seemed to have the best grasp of what it truly took to be great.

When it came time to get in the ring as opponents, Owen was looking to step out of his brother's shadow and create a name for himself, and that is exactly what he did by winning this match.

Bret would go on to win the WWF Championship later in the evening, but he and Owen had already stolen the show.

6. The Rock vs. Stone Cold WrestleMania 17

95 of 100

The Rock and Stone Cole Steve Austin battled in the main event of WrestleMania on three separate occasions, and WrestleMania 17 was their best.

Rock and Austin were the two biggest stars of the Attitude Era, and every time they stepped in the ring together, they created something special.

This match was particularly memorable because it featured the moment nobody ever thought they would see: Vince McMahon helping Austin win.

The Rattlesnake and The Rock have the kind of relationship that will link them forever, and this bout is the reason. If you have never seen WrestleMania 17, go buy the WWE Network and watch it immediately.

5. Ultimate Warrior vs. Hulk Hogan WrestleMania 6

96 of 100

You hear the term "passing the torch" a lot in pro wrestling, and it was never more applicable than when The Ultimate Warrior faced Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 6.

Hogan had been the top draw for years, but Warrior was beginning to reach the same level of popularity. Kids in the crowd painted their faces to look like him, and you could see hundreds of his shirts in the stands at every show.

Putting Hogan against Warrior was risky because both men were babyfaces, but it ended up being so much better than if WWE had turned one of them heel.

These two men defined wrestling in the late '80s, and this match became one of the prominent in both of their legacies.

4. The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels WrestleMania 25

97 of 100

The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels have a long history, but they never ended up having a match at WrestleMania until 2009.

Every time they had met in a singles match, HBK managed to get the best of The Dead Man. For the first time ever, it seemed like The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak was in real danger.

Both men were over 40, had accumulated numerous injuries and had achieved everything they ever could have wanted in the wrestling business. They had nothing left to prove to anyone, but they still stole the show from everyone else on the card with ease.

Their match the following year had more emotion because Michaels was putting his career on the line, but their encounter from WrestleMania 25 was impossible to top.

3. Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant WrestleMania 3

Certain moments stand out in wrestling history as truly iconic. Hulk Hogan slamming Andre the Giant at WrestleMania 3 is one of them.

Hogan and Andre were the two biggest attractions in wrestling, both financially and physically. Even with his famous pythons, Hogan was having trouble keeping Andre at bay throughout the match.

It wasn't until the final few moments that Hogan started to make a comeback. He Hulked up as the crowd rallied behind him, and with every ounce of adrenaline running through his veins, he lifted the Giant and dropped him to the mat.

If you are a wrestling fan, this moment is burned into your memory from being shown countless time on WWE programming.

2. Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels WrestleMania 12

Wrestlers have been having hourlong matches for decades, but WWE had never put anything even close to that long on a pay-per-view card until WrestleMania 12.

Sixty minutes of wrestling without a break is insane when you think about it. Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels were known for their wrestling ability and endurance, but even they looked like they were ready to pass out when the match was over.

For over an hour, these two legendary grapplers put on one of the greatest matches of all time. They put everything on the line and used every single trick in their arsenals.

Michaels won his first WWE Championship that night, and together with Hart, they created one of the most memorable performances in WWE history.

1. Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat WrestleMania 3

100 of 100

If you ask 10 wrestling fans what their favorite match is, you will get 10 different answers. Ask those same people what the best WrestleMania match is, and you will hear most of them say Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat.

WrestleMania 3 is mostly known for the iconic moment when Hulk Hogan slammed Andre the Giant, but it was Savage and Steamboat who put on the best show.

Their technical ability and hard-hitting strikes put everyone else on notice. If you wanted to be the best, these two were the measuring stick.

Most matches from 30 years ago were relatively boring compared to what many wrestlers can do today, but this bout will stand next to any other match in wrestling history.

There you have it, folks. The 100 greatest matches in WrestleMania history. You probably have your own opinion on the matter, so please share your thoughts in the comments section below.
