CBS Sports: Goodell Offers No Timetable

Wednesday, March 25

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell spoke at the annual owners meetings and said there is no concrete timetable for Ted Wells to offer his findings on the Patriots and Deflategate, via Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports:

In an interview with Peter King of The MMQB published on March 23, Goodell said he believes Wells “is getting near the end” of the investigation. Goodell previously stated he doesn't believe Deflategate has tarnished the reputations of Tom Brady, Bill Belichick or the team.

As ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported in January, the NFL found that 11 of the 12 game balls New England used in the AFC title game were underinflated.

At his "state of the league" address prior to the Super Bowl, Goodell said the Patriots could be looking at increased penalties if they are found to be in violation of league rules. The team and Bill Belichick have previously been fined and had a first-round draft pick taken away for the Spygate scandal in 2007.

Given that Wells isn't ready to make an announcement regarding the findings, it's clear he has more work to do. The Patriots will wait anxiously to know their fate, as the league and fans hang in suspense.
