Transfer News: Sami Khedira Hints at Real Madrid Exit This Summer

Jamie CaseyMar 25, 2015

Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has indicated he will run down his contract and leave the Bernabeu this summer.

The German World Cup winner has made just five starts in all competitions this season, per WhoScored.com, as injuries and lack of form have disrupted his campaign.

According to Transfermarkt, his contract expires on June 30, but the 27-year-old insists he will remain committed to Madrid so long as he remains on their books.

“I love Real Madrid, it will be hard to leave this club,” Khedira told Marca, reports Metro’s Vaishali Bhardwaj.

“I will give everything for this shirt until the last day of my contract, there should be no doubt about that.”

Khedira has been tracked by several Premier League clubs in the past, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, but he is also wanted by top clubs from his homeland.

Schalke are reportedly in pole position to bring him back to the Bundesliga, though Bayern Munich are thought to be pondering whether or not to offer him a contract.

The Mirror quote Schalke boss Roberto Di Matteo as saying: “We all know he’s a great player. If he wants to come, the door is open. He’s a world-class player.”

Spanish football expert—and Bleacher Report Featured Columnist—Guillem Balague said Khedira’s “mind is somewhere else,” in his latest piece for Sky Sports following Sunday's El Clasico.

Balague believes Khedira already has an agreement in place with an unnamed Bundesliga side, meaning Premier League sides are likely to miss out this summer.

Khedira played 58 minutes against Schalke in the German side’s 4-3 win at the Bernabeu earlier this month, one of just 15 appearances in all competitions this term.
