WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from March 23

Erik BeastonMar 24, 2015

With WrestleMania 31 just six days away, it was absolutely imperative that WWE Creative do a good enough job of hyping and promoting the matches and stories involved in Sunday's card as the company rolled into Los Angeles for this week's Raw.

The focus was put on marquee matches such as Sting vs. Triple H, John Cena vs. Rusev, The Undertaker vs. Bray Wyatt and, of course, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.

For the most part, the writing staff succeeded, creating interest in most of the top bouts. It was the one exception, however, that earned the writers "loser" status for this week's broadcast.

Monday Night RAW

The final images of Lesnar and Reigns playing tug-o-war with the world title like two third-graders hopped up on Mountain Dew was absolutely the wrong approach to take. After weeks of talk, fans needed to see them get physical, to have Reigns prove he belonged in the same ring with Lesnar for their match this Sunday.

That did not happen, and as a result, WWE Creative hurt the man who's supposed to be the face of the company going forward as much, if not more than it hurt its own reputation.

Who joined WWE Creative as losers on the last Raw on the road to WrestleMania, and who had a productive night, their matches at the Showcase of the Immortals helped by strong booking and even better performances?

Let's take a look.

Loser: Roman Reigns

There is not possibly a worse way that Reigns could have been booked Monday night.

As he stalked toward the ring, step after step, it felt like fans would finally get the physical confrontation between Reigns and Lesnar that would both establish the challenger as a legitimate threat to Lesnar's title and add heat to a program that, outside of Paul Heyman's extraordinary promo work, had been ice cold to that point.

Instead, Reigns and Lesnar grabbed hold of the title and tugged at it like two brothers fighting over the right to play Mario Kart first.

The segment made Reigns look like a chump rather than a dominant force.

Worse yet is the fact that Heyman was so incredibly strong on the microphone, and so convincing, that he made the Los Angeles fans far more excited for the possibility of Lesnar dismantling the hero in the story than they were for the villain to be vanquished.

It was an awful, awful night for Reigns that may only get worse come WrestleMania, especially if he wins the title.

Winner: Bray Wyatt

With no Undertaker to play off of, Bray Wyatt has done a phenomenal job of selling his match with the Phenom through a series of promos that have established the issue he has with the iconic figure. Monday night, he intensified those issues, claiming to have stolen the supernatural elements that once defined the Deadman before promising that, after WrestleMania, Undertaker will finally rest in peace.

It was a money promo from Wyatt, who has been as good over the last month as he has ever been. The conviction with which he has approached each of his interviews has been nothing short of phenomenal, as has been the content of his work.

While Wyatt vs. Undertaker has been treated like somewhat of an afterthought, a midcard match on a show with numerous main event bouts, the Reaper of Souls has done an outstanding job of coming through when the build needed it most, turning in some of the best work of his young career.

Winners: The WWE Divas

With the Divas Championship at stake, Paige and Nikki Bella wrestled a strong match Monday night. It was not just a good match for the women; it was a good match, period. The same could be said for the angle that was incorporated into the proceedings.

WWE Creative managed to craft a story for the Divas that, while nothing new, was incredibly effective in terms of creating doubt as to AJ and Paige's ability to coexist long enough to defeat the villainous twin sisters.

It is apparent that after the #GiveDivasAChance Twitter movement swept social media a month ago, management has made a concentrated effort to put the women in the spotlight, to allow them to showcase their skills and abilities in longer matches and more interesting angles.

During a period in which WWE Creative has let fans down more times than it has succeeded on this road to WrestleMania, the program involving Paige, AJ and the Bella Twins stands out as one of the stronger stories WWE been able to tell.

Winner: Sting

How good it must have felt for Sting to step out onto the Raw stage and be greeted with such a strong reception from the WWE Universe. After years of fearing that signing with WWE would somehow tarnish his legacy, to elicit a response the likes of which he did Monday night, one rife with respect, it had to have been rewarding for one of the greatest icons of the last three decades.

He did his part to sell his match with Triple H, appearing confident on the microphone and staring down his rival, baseball bat in hand, unafraid of the fact that The Game possessed a sledgehammer. In fact, he was fired up, as he dared the COO of WWE to get back in the ring, even dropping the bat.

The crowd was incredibly hot for the Stinger, and of all the matches on Sunday's card, the fans appeared to care about his war with Triple H the most.

Loser: The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

A year ago, much was made of the inaugural Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Hulk Hogan revealed the plans for the match and commentators put over the importance of Andre to the legacy of WrestleMania.

This year, the match feels like an afterthought. It's ironic, really, when one takes into account that those involved in the bout are very much afterthoughts, the Superstars without anything else better to do on the biggest card of the year.

The lack of interest in this year's match can be credited to the fact that WWE Creative did such a poor job of sustaining Cesaro's push coming off his win in the bout in 2014. With the winner being no better off for it, fans have little reason to care about who emerges victorious from this year's match.

Ryback was the clear favorite among the fans in Los Angeles Monday night, while stars such as the Prime Time Players, Zack Ryder and the Ascension received little reaction, demonstrating the disparity between talent in the match.
