Manchester United Transfer News: Rumours on Angel Di Maria, Patrick Herrmann

Gianni VerschuerenMar 19, 2015

The future of Manchester United forward Angel Di Maria remains a hotly debated topic, but according to The Sun's Neil Custis (subscription required), the Argentina international will not be seeking a transfer away from the club in the summer.

Di Maria reportedly told close friends he's happy in Manchester and eager to prove himself:

"

Angel actually loves it in Manchester. He loves the club and is desperate to be a success.

Things have not gone that well so far but he is convinced things will turn round.

After leaving Real Madrid there could not have been a better move for him than this and he is not going to give up on it after one season.

The report goes directly against claims in the Spanish media, as The Independent's Simon Rice writes that they believe the 27-year-old has asked his agent to facilitate a transfer.

Di Maria has failed to live up to his lofty price tag since moving to England in the summer, and with United facing a serious battle for a top-four Premier League finish, the criticism of several of the big-money signings has been relentless.

It's easy to point the finger at the man who cost the club so much they had to break the British transfer record, and said transfer fee pushed the expectations to massive levels. As shared by Squawka, the forward certainly hasn't been poor—but people still want more:

It's not uncommon for players to struggle in their first season after moving leagues, as they have to adapt to a new style of play, new team-mates and an entirely new culture. The Red Devils have come up short as a collective—isolating Di Maria makes little sense.

All that said, it still seems unlikely Di Maria will actually leave just 12 months after moving to the Premier League. He remains committed to the club in every interview he conducts, as shared by United's official Twitter feed, and it's hard to imagine him just giving up and moving on:

He's also usually not mentioned as a potential departure whenever the topic is discussed, via Bleacher Report's Stan Collymore:

A lot will depend on United's performances during the final weeks of the 2014-15 Premier League season, but even should the club come up short, you should expect to see Di Maria continuing his career at Old Trafford next season.

According to Metro's Simon Osborn, he could be joined by a fresh face in midfield by that time, as United are reportedly scouting Borussia Monchengladbach's Patrick Herrmann and are ready to pounce in summer:

"

The Old Trafford outfit have been scouting the 24-year-old this season and are widely expected to make their move for the midfielder at the end of the season.

Herrmann has a release clause of £14.5m but reports in Germany suggest Monchengladbach will accept less as the player has just over one year left to run on his contract.

"

The 24-year-old is enjoying a fine season in the Bundesliga, as shared by the New York Times' Cristian Nyari:

Herrmann was expected to sign a new deal at the start of the current campaign, but his success this season has attracted plenty of interest, and he's yet to agree to new terms as he keeps his options open.

He has the versatility to play as an attacking midfielder or in a wide role and has even seen some time at the striker position this season. The Red Devils have plenty of quality to address those areas, but for a minor investment, Herrmann could be a smart signing as a fringe starter or depth option.

Monchengladbach will continue working on a contract proposal that suits all parties, but if they can't come to an agreement, a summer transfer seems likely.
