Kevin Owens' Knee Injury Won't Stop Hot Start to His WWE NXT Career

Donald WoodMar 19, 2015

Since making his debut in NXT, champion Kevin Owens has been one of the most destructive forces in all of the WWE. Unfortunately for the champ, Bobby Melok of WWE.com is reporting that Owens “underwent a partial meniscectomy for a knee injury late last week.”

After watching Owens scratch and claw his way up the ranks on the independent scene and earn his way to the top in NXT by making an instant impact, there is no doubt he will bounce back from this injury better than ever.

When asked about how his knee is feeling and when he expects to be back, Owens told Melok:

I’m not the kind of person that lets things like this get in my way. I’m already walking around without crutches and doing physical therapy at the WWE Performance Center. Now that I’m at the level I am now, and with as much at stake as there is, I don’t think it’s going to slow me down. I’m on the way back.

"

One of the main advantages Owens has in his effort not to let this injury cost him any momentum is the fact that NXT tapes its shows in advance, which could allow him time to heal up without missing many episodes. Even if he isn't 100 percent for the next tapings, the ability to edit footage and use vignettes will allow Owens to still be a force.

Even after being in NXT for only a short time, Owens is clearly the top heel in the company and a feared wrestler. There is plenty of fan support for the champion, but he is getting both positive and negative reactions from the crowd. Missing time will not cause the fans to turn on his character or abandon their support for him.

If Owens is forced to miss the tapings while healing, he can still cut a promo and continue his storylines with No. 1 contender Finn Balor and Alex Riley by using his words. Allow him to reference the injury during his promos, and Owens will produce content that continues to make him look like a despicable heel. He is great on the mic.

Even when he is eventually cleared to compete once again, NXT should take it easy on him by slowly returning him to full-blown action. Booking him to squash jobbers would make him look strong and help him shake any ring rust that has developed.

Regardless of how long Owens is out or if he misses any time on television at all, there is no doubt that he will not lose a drop of the momentum he has built since joining NXT. The WWE didn’t build him to be this monster just to let it all slip away.
