Trent Richardson to Raiders: Latest Contract Details, Comments, Reaction

After the Indianapolis Colts signed running back Frank Gore this offseason, they deemed Trent Richardson expendable and promptly cut him. He didn't last long on the market, however, signing a new contract with the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday.

Since being selected No. 3 overall in the 2012 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns, Richardson has been a disappointment. While he had a pretty strong rookie season, rushing for 950 yards and 11 touchdowns, the Browns traded him in 2013 to the Colts for a first-round pick.    

In 29 games with Indianapolis, Richardson rushed for just 977 yards and six touchdowns, averaging a measly 3.1 yards per carry. He looked like a shell of the player who dominated college football during his time at Alabama.

"I was expecting this," Richardson told Mike Wells of ESPN.com after being cut. "It just didn't work out. I'm not saying anything bad about the program, but that program just didn't fit me at all. Me and the GM [Ryan Grigson] didn't see eye to eye. It was a bad marriage for us."

As Bill Williamson of ESPN.com noted, the Raiders may be the last stop for Richardson if he doesn't produce:

Indeed, the young Latavius Murray showed potential last season, so Richardson is going to have to fight for every carry.

Still, if he can show the potential that made him the No. 3 overall pick in the draft, the Raiders could have a very solid and young one-two punch at running back heading into the 2015 season with Murray's big-play potential and Richardson's ability to grind out yards between the tackles.
