Senators' Andrew 'The Hamburglar' Hammond Receives Free McDonald's for Life

Kyle NewportMar 17, 2015

It seems odd to think it took until just recently for "The Hamburglar" to have access to all the hamburgers he could ever want.

Ottawa Senators goalie Andrew Hammond, best known for his Hamburglar nickname, has just received free McDonald's food for life.

The 27-year-old even has the beloved McDonald's character on the side of his goalie mask:

After Sunday's 2-1 shootout victory over the Philadelphia Flyers, a fan threw a hamburger on the ice. Hammond scooped the burger up and saluted the crowd with it:

In case you were wondering, Hammond did not actually eat the hamburger, because it was "cold."

That turned out to be a bit of a life-changing moment. McDonald's took notice of The Hamburglar's actions and decided to give the rookie goaltender free food for life, according to Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun:

"

Thanks to John Bergeron, the Senators goalie will be delivered a card that will give him free McDonald's food for life. Bergeron is the father of Chris Bergeron, who coached Hammond for three seasons at Bowling Green. He also owns six McDonald's locations in the Ottawa Valley and is a big Senators supporter.

Bergeron was so moved by the rise of The Hamburglar and appreciative of the promotion provided by the Senators goalie he called the VP of marketing at the head office in Toronto, suggesting a hamburger giveaway at Canadian Tire Centre. Toronto wanted to go one further and give Hammond the lifetime card.

"

Maybe Hammond can track down the fan who threw the hamburger on the ice and treat him or her to a meal or two. After all, he probably has the fan to thank for his lifetime McDonald's card.
