WWE WrestleMania 31: Feuds Guaranteed to Disappoint Fans

Aaron BowerMar 16, 2015

Even though there's lots to be excited about ahead of WWE WrestleMania 31, there will unfortunately be some moments that flatter to deceive.

After all, it's impossible that each and every rivalry on the WrestleMania card will deliver, and there will be some feuds that will leave fans disappointed and feeling shortchanged.

And with a result that many people believe is somewhat inevitable at the biggest show of the year, there's every chance John Cena vs. Rusev is going to be one of those rivalries.

Should Cena get the win, as many expect him to, the WWE writers will have a huge task on their hands to ensure Rusev remains strong.

Ending an undefeated streak at WrestleMania is a risky move for the WWE to make, and it's likely the onus of how the outcome is received will be on the writers and how they book Rusev to lose this match.

The match itself is unlikely to be too eye-catching, especially if it ends in a clean victory for Cena. Does the leader of the Cenation have it in him to help avoid burying Rusev in front of millions of viewers? Or does WWE Creative dare do the unthinkable and actually have Rusev pick up the victory?

Like a few rivalries on the card, this has had precious little in the way of serious build and extensive TV time, which seems strange. The final two weeks of promo work are going to be vital here, because at the moment, this match feels like a bit of a damp squib.

Also, there's a very real danger that the main event of the entire show could leave fans with a feeling of disappointment, too.

Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns has the potential to be explosive, but with the way the WWE is going at the moment, it looks set to be a bit of a failure.

When you compare this main event to last year's WrestleMania showstopper, when Daniel Bryan finally got his reward after months of being stymied by The Authority, the contrast in the quality of the buildup between the two feuds is stark.

Barring a blockbuster cash-in from Seth Rollins at the conclusion of the match, it's hard to see where the WWE is going to draw genuine excitement and drama from this feud.

Lesnar's intermittent schedule means that his manager, Paul Heyman, is doing most of the legwork, while there's no clear directive about how to get Reigns over with WWE fans.

Throwing a returning Mark Henry into his path on the most recent edition of SmackDown only led to a split decision in terms of crowd reaction, and it seemed to certify that Reigns is in limbo at the moment.

Without a top babyface headlining the show, the company's main event is shaping up to be the biggest disappointment of all at WrestleMania.
