Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Meanwhile, Steve Reed of The Associated Press has more information on the length of the contract:
Coleman, 26, was certainly excited about his fit in Carolina, per Max Henson of Panthers.com: "When you watch this defense on film, it's tenacious. That's my style of play. That fits me perfectly. And one of the things I was really considering was which teams are really striving to be champions? I think Carolina is building and building. I can be another piece and I can help these guys get to that next level."
He added, "Whatever role they want me to play I am willing to do. But I think I have worked my way to be a starter. I know I can play as a starter and be very productive."
He'll certainly have the chance to earn a starting gig, with Tre Boston and Roman Harper currently ahead of him on the depth chart. At the very least, he'll likely play a similar role to what he did in Kansas City last year as an extra defensive back who played on passing downs and was a solid special teams player.
In 2014, Coleman finished with 37 tackles, three interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery while starting three games. He spent the first four years in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles.
While the Panthers haven't made any major splashes in free agency, they'll be hoping that modest, cost-effective moves, like signing Coleman, will help reinforce the core of the team already in place and combine with a strong draft this year to help the team reach the postseason for a third straight season.
