The Undertaker Falls to Brock Lesnar
The Undertaker has become synonymous with the WrestleMania PPV due to his 21-0 winning streak at the event, but that all came to a sudden halt last year when Lesnar stole the show and handed the veteran his first-ever WrestleMania loss.
The build to the match was lackluster and The Undertaker looked strong throughout the build. There were few wrestling fans who thought Lesnar even had a sliver of hope, but that is the time to land the best swerves.
Just as the WWE Universe was expecting something else, McMahon hit them with this.
Looking back now, Lesnar went on to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and has become one of the most dominant wrestlers in the history of the business. That run at the top all started after he stunned the world and beat Undertaker’s streak
At WrestleMania 30, the WWE booked the perfect swerve and it left an entire stadium in shock.
Stone Cold Steve Austin Joins Forces with Vince McMahon
The greatest feud of all time in wrestling for many fans was the battle between Austin as the mistreated employee and McMahon as the tyrannical boss. The two men were built to square off against each other, but everything changed at WrestleMania 17.
Austin was in the midst of an extended feud against The Rock and the battle ultimately culminated with a match at WrestleMania. After McMahon had caused Austin trouble throughout the angle, the two men joined forces in the match.
Using the chair that McMahon had handed him, Austin struck The Rock repeatedly until he was easily able to pin him. After the bout, Austin and McMahon celebrated and drank beers together, breaking the hearts of many young wrestling fans.
The heel turn was ill-conceived looking back now, but the shocking moment it created will go down as one of the best swerves in WrestleMania season.
Hulk Hogan Proves He Can’t Let it Go
There is a perception among fans that Hulk Hogan had a hard time allowing other Superstars to shine around him, and there is no better example of this than the main event of WrestleMania 9 when he walked out of the event with the WWF Championship.
Hogan wasn’t even supposed to be in the main event.
Yokozuna took on Bret Hart in what turned out to be a very good match, but it was the heel challenger who was able to beat the champion and become the first bad guy to ever win in the main event of WrestleMania.
Unfortunately, Hogan’s ego came into play and the legend ran to the ring where he was called out by Yokozuna and his manager Mr. Fuji. Seconds later, Hogan had pinned the heel and was the new champion.
This was a huge swerve to the fans in attendance and at home, but it has lived in infamy because of the absurdness of the situation. This was a perfect example of an exciting swerve gone badly.
