Tyson Fury vs. Christian Hammer: Weigh-in Results, Takeaways

Mike ChiariFeb 27, 2015

Ahead of their anticipated clash Saturday at The O2 Arena in London, heavyweights Tyson Fury and Christian Hammer tipped the scales at Friday's weigh-in.

The undefeated Fury will face a tough test in the form of his Romanian opponent, but he has a considerable size advantage entering the bout.

Not only is the big Brit seven inches taller than Hammer at 6'9", but he is also significantly heavier as well. According to HennessySports.com, Fury weighed in at 262 pounds, while Hammer was more than 20 pounds lighter at 239.

BoxNation also provided a look at Hammer's time on the scale as well:

Fury was bigger than Hammer, but the underdog looked to be in better physical condition. Even so, that didn't stop the WBO International Heavyweight champion from talking some trash, per Hennessy Sports on Twitter:

Weigh-ins are only partially about weight as boxers often use them as a way to intimidate their opponents. That was certainly the case between Fury and Hammer as they played mind games and even got physical with each other, as seen in this video:

Fury has never been one to mince words, and that was once again the case Friday as he insulted his unheralded opponents, according to Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions:

The 26-year-old star has been successful for many reasons, but his ability to tick off his opponents may be near the top of the list.

In reality, almost all of the pressure is on Fury to win this contest. In addition to being bigger and being heavily favored, he is in line for a potential huge-money fight with multi-title world champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Per Nick Parkinson of ESPN UK, the two sides are already in talks to make the fight happen, and Warren believes it will likely come to fruition.

"HBO I think are forcing the Klitschkos into the fight," Warren said. "I am confident the fight is going to be made because the WBO have ordered it. Klitschko will either have to vacate or fight, but the conversations we've had were positive and I'm confident we will get it over the line."

All of that could go by the wayside if Fury loses to Hammer, though. That fact probably had a lot to do with the tension when they came face to face Friday.

Fury and Hammer gave boxing fans a taste of what they could potentially see Saturday, and if it is even half as exciting as the weigh-in, then they will certainly be in for a treat.
