WWE Superstar of the Week for February 28

The Doctor Chris MuellerFeb 28, 2015

Despite the fact that Fastlane was this past Sunday, it was a relatively lackluster week in the land of World Wrestling Entertainment.

Roman Reigns defeated Daniel Bryan for a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, John Cena was crushed by Rusev, and Goldust got a win over his brother, Stardust.

We also got to see a few WWE Superstars play hot potato with the Intercontinental Championship. The title never actually changed hands, but it was stolen, retrieved and stolen again.

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

Seth Rollins and Jon Stewart have been trading barbs on social media and The Daily Show, but perhaps the biggest story this week was AJ Lee calling out Stephanie McMahon regarding the Divas' low wages.

And we can't forget about Darren Young and Titus O'Neil reforming The Prime Time Players to give The Ascension its first loss on the main roster.

Only a few people made a significant impact over the past seven days, and just one of them can be the Superstar of the Week.

Honorable Mention: Tyson Kidd and Cesaro

Cesaro and Tyson Kidd have been booked horribly up until recently, but all of their hard work was finally rewarded when they won the Tag Team Championships at Fastlane.

Their match with The Usos was definitely one of the highlights of the evening, and the fact that they had been kept down so long made their win seem very special.

It's hard to root against two guys who are so technically gifted even if they do cheat and Kidd treats his wife with little to no respect. The Iron Sheik said he's "happy" with Cesaro and Kidd:

When Kidd and Cesaro were first paired up, it felt like another one of those situations where WWE had no idea what to do with them and just threw them together for the sake of having one more tag team.

It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as they are now champions and have been getting a lot more television time. There's no telling how long they will be together, so we should all just enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Honorable Mention: Seth Rollins and Jon Stewart

Rollins' feud with Jon Stewart has brought WWE a little mainstream attention, and it all came about after Rollins made a throwaway comment on an episode of Raw.

Stewart's response was hilarious, and it set in motion a storyline that should come to a head on Monday's Raw. Rollins showed up on The Daily Show and challenged Stewart to appear on WWE's flagship show, and the veteran broadcaster accepted:

It's unlikely the 53-year-old comedian will throw any punches, but his appearance should be entertaining, and it will definitely give WWE some more exposure on the Road to WrestleMania.

All of this is very good for Rollins, and the media attention he has received will only serve to make him a bigger star than he already is.

Superstar of the Week for February 28: R-Truth

Right now, you're probably thinking, "R-Truth? Really? How is he the Superstar of the Week?" This is a guy who has been either jobbing to others or off TV completely for a very long time, but not anymore.

Truth picked up a surprise win over Wade Barrett on the Feb. 19 edition of SmackDown, and then he joined the commentary team for Barrett's matches on both Raw and SmackDown this week.

All of a sudden, Truth is part of the IC title feud between Dean Ambrose and Barrett, and quite frankly, he is a welcome addition.

Barrett and Ambrose can certainly carry their own feud, but Truth is going to freshen things up and keep the storyline interesting leading up to WrestleMania 31.

Truth is a highly entertaining character who has just about every tool WWE could want in a Superstar. He is a good talker with charisma to spare, he's extremely versatile in the ring, and he always manages to get a great response from the crowd even if he is quoting a cheesy rap song that was made before most young fans were born.

R-Truth used Twitter to rally support as the IC Champion:

One of his best traits is his sense of humor. Confusing Byron Saxton with Jonathan Coachman on SmackDown was hilarious, and we all remember when he dressed as a confederate soldier to confront Mr. McMahon. ESPN's Jonathan Coachman is apparently a fan of this "talented" wrestler regardless, as illustrated by his response to WWE fan Shay's tweet regarding R-Truth giving him a shout-out:

WWE has introduced and built up a lot of new stars since the last time R-Truth was relevant, but there will always be room for a guy who can work well with anybody and deliver great promos and matches.

It hasn't been made official yet, but at this point, it looks like Truth could end up being one of the challengers for Barrett's title at WrestleMania in a Ladder match.

It's very possible he will fall back into obscurity once this program has run its course, but if he performs well, he could find himself with a renewed push and possibly even a championship around his waist.

Many of you may disagree with Truth being the Superstar of the Week, but he deserves the honor simply because his hard work and patience are finally paying off. It's about time, too.

If you don't agree, then share your thoughts on who should have been recognized in the comments section below.
