WWE Fastlane 2015: Most Underrated Moments from Event

Aaron BowerFeb 24, 2015

Whilst Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns grabbed the fair bulk of the headlines at WWE Fastlane, there was plenty elsewhere on the card that may have slid under the radar somewhat.

And even though it wasn't the most exhilarating pay-per-view to ramp up the excitement for WWE WrestleMania 31, there was still plenty going on, both good and bad.

For starters, there's no getting away from the fact that Cesaro is on a pretty impressive return to form at the moment, and that resulted in him claiming some much-deserved gold at WWE Fastlane.

He and Tyson Kidd have incredible chemistry in the ring, and whilst it seemed inevitable that they would win the WWE Tag Team Championships so early in their feud with The Usos, the fact it came at Fastlane was somewhat of a surprise.

It'll be interesting to see where we go with the new tag champs now. After all, they managed to keep hold of their titles on Raw, albeit via disqualification, but a rematch at WrestleMania looks to be a certainty.

Kidd, like Cesaro, is an incredibly talented athlete in the ring, and there's always been a sense of injustice about how both of them have been treated. The WWE have been searching for a tag team who can restore some prestige to the division for a good few years now—hopefully in Cesaro and Kidd, they have exactly that.

Elsewhere, although Rusev's victory against John Cena certainly left plenty to talk about, there was a crucial element of character development in the match that may have escaped the attention of some.

Although Rusev has been on a slow and successful build to becoming a credible heel, his victories have seemed a touch dominant—and clean—in recent months.

That's not to say he shouldn't be dominating opponents, but without that element of controversy in some of his performances, it's hard for fans to believe in the heat the WWE are attempting to invest in him. Rather than hate him, it's more possible that fans will simply appreciate how dominant and masterful he can be.

The way in which he won—followed up by his impressive promo with John Cena on Raw—makes him much more believable as a top heel. One of the most interesting results at WrestleMania will be the inevitable rematch between Rusev and Cena. Some have argued that Cena ground Bray Wyatt's impressive momentum to a halt at WrestleMania XXX last year. The same cannot be allowed to happen again this year with Rusev.

Finally, it's hard not to be impressed by Cody Rhodes/Stardust of late. Whilst his match against brother Goldust happened perhaps too early—unless the WWE can manipulate a decent storyline to have a rematch at WrestleMania—Cody's reaction after the match was simply sensational.

Longtime admirers of Cody will be fully aware that he can execute a very smart promo, and that's exactly what we saw backstage with his father after the match. His approach to Dusty was pulled off superbly, and he followed it up with a pretty savage attack on Goldust.

Whether he eventually ditches the Stardust character remains to be seen, but his early beginnings as a singles competitor once again promises much.

Cody's potential has always been there for everyone to see. His storyline will be one of the more fascinating and interesting subplots to keep an eye on as we head towards WrestleMania in the coming weeks.
