Sting Should Break His Silence Before Match with Triple H at WWE WrestleMania 31

Donald WoodFeb 23, 2015

The decision to keep wrestling legend Sting from saying a word before confirming his match with Triple H at WrestleMania 31 was the correct game plan, but the former WCW world champion should break his silence before his first WWE match.

Triple H has carried all the weight of this feud thus far on the mic. Sting’s aura has made it feel special and the theatrical appearances have the fans excited for The Icon, but the WWE Universe wants to hear what Sting has to say.

The fans understand why Triple H claims Sting showed up in WWE, but they need to hear his side before fully and emotionally investing themselves in the storyline.

While it was unclear at the beginning of this angle, the WWE is now primarily playing up to the Monday Night War against WCW. Sting was the face of the competition for over a decade, and his first match with the company he stood against for so long will be a big deal to old-school wrestling fans.

The WWE Universe has been waiting for Sting’s in-ring debut with WWE since 2001, and there is no doubt he had his reasons for not signing in the past. In the current wrestling landscape that claims kayfabe is dead, the WCW legend airing his grievances about why he decided to stay away from the company would make for an unforgettable segment.

Whether the WWE likes it or not, WCW was a huge part of the wrestling industry's success in 1990s and Sting was at the forefront of that movement. He knows all the right things to say on the mic, and allowing him to speak would offer no legitimate risk. Sting is the consummate professional, and giving him the opportunity to deliver a worked shoot promo could result in an once-in-a-lifetime moment.

Just as The Undertaker has remained silent in the past leading up to his WrestleMania matches, the WWE has booked Sting in a very similar way. In the past, Undertaker would speak once the match was already confirmed, though, and the same should be said for The Icon.

Over the last decade, Sting dominated the landscape of TNA's Impact Wrestling. There he proved that he still has the ability to work a great match and the skill needed to cut entertaining promos, making him an invaluable addition to the WrestleMania card.

The key now will be having Triple H and Sting go face-to-face again on Raw. The Icon has continued to get the upper hand in the build to eventual WrestleMania match, but Triple H will eventually need to show his strength to sell a convincing match that could conceivably go either way.

After Sting finally is allowed to air all of his grievances and tell his side of the story, Triple H should use the rest of The Authority to beat The Icon down, just as the nWo did in the past.

With both Sting and Triple H booked strong leading into the WrestleMania match and everyone getting the chance to get any hard feelings off their chest, the storyline and eventual match should go down as one of the most unforgettable feuds in recent wrestling history.

Sting breaking his silence would only add to the magnitude of this match.
