Robert Griffin III Will Enter 2015 Season as Redskins' No. 1 QB

Rich Tandler of CSN Washington and Reuben Frank of CSN Philly provided further comments from Gruden:
It's an interesting development, given the timing. The Redskins utilized three different quarterbacks heavily last season. Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy—the latter of whom is set to become a free agent—also saw their fair share of snaps.
Neither Griffin nor Cousins seemingly stood out enough to hold a clear grip on the starting job. Yet for whatever reason, Gruden felt compelled to make it clear the 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year sits atop the depth chart.
There were flashes of the first-year version of Griffin this past season. They were fleeting, however, as he finished the campaign with four passing touchdowns and six interceptions. He also lacked the dynamic playmaking ability on the ground he previously showcased. Former Redskins coach Mike Shanahan noted one potential reason for the quarterback's inconsistency, per Michael Phillips of the Richmond Times-Dispatch:
Rana L. Cash of Sporting News provided more comments from Shanahan, who spoke about Griffin's rookie season:
"Shanahan also detailed how Griffin, still just a rookie, demanded that the coaches only use specific plays, barging into Shanahan's office to voice his concerns.
"He actually mentioned what plays were acceptable and unacceptable, and when he started talking about what plays were acceptable and unacceptable, and that he wasn’t a rookie anymore and wanted to voice his opinion, the term unacceptable is used by Dan, the owner, quite often. So I had a little bit of a smile when I heard some of these complaints.
"
There's no doubt a healthy, in-form Griffin is the Redskins' best option, but it's unclear if he'll be back at that level in the fall. At the very least, the QB position is apparently now his job to lose entering camp.
