Sheamus Must Return to WWE as New Enforcer for the Authority
The WWE has teased the return of former world champion Sheamus for the last several weeks on Raw and Smackdown, but to make the biggest possible impact he must come back as the new enforcer for The Authority.
The Authority is currently made up of Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins, tired veterans like Kane and Big Show and the comedy duo of J&J Security. While Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have been great as heel authority figures, the group needs a tough guy who can bring legitimacy to the stable.
It would be perfect if Sheamus returns as a heel and joins forces with Triple H.
Upon his return to in-ring action, Sheamus would be catapulted to the top of the card as one of the best heels on the roster. Besides Rollins and Rusev, the competition to be one of the marquee bad guys on the roster is thin. Instead of turning Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan or even Dolph Ziggler heel, making the character change to the Celtic Warrior would spawn plenty of potentially interesting feuds.
The shift from a face to a heel would be good for Sheamus as a wrestler as well. He has been stale for years and involved in meaningless storylines that go nowhere (just ask Alberto Del Rio.) On the other hand, the Irish star would be launched into new and unique angles as a heel that the WWE Universe would be able to get behind.
Sheamus grew boring as a face on the mic due to the lack of character and storyline development, but there is no denying his elite in-ring work. As one of the most brutal and hard-hitting wrestlers in the business today, the approach he uses in the ring could be construed already as heel tactics.
With a mixture of brutal kicks, devastating punches and a willingness to fight the world, Sheamus could be the psychotic heel the WWE Universe has been waiting to see again.
Another consideration to make is that there was speculation in the past that Sheamus and Triple H were friends, but the Celtic Warrior took to Twitter to dispute the chatter last year:
Add in the fact that the promo packages the WWE has been airing highlight Sheamus’ brutality in the ring instead of his relationship with the fans, and it’s possible that the company is planting the seeds for a heel turn. Even if the WWE doesn’t turn him heel, these vignettes indicate that we'll see a much more aggressive Sheamus.
Regardless of whether there is truth to the friendship between Triple H and Sheamus or not, the WWE should be using that as even more fuel for the eventual turn. Wrestling is all about getting fans to buy into the storylines, and tricking the smart wrestling fans by playing off dirt-sheet speculation would add another layer to this angle.
Sheamus' joining The Authority works on so many levels. From his style and attitude to the heel stable’s need for a legitimate tough guy, the WWE will miss a huge opportunity if it doesn’t bring back the Irish Superstar as Triple H and Stephanie’s new enforcer.
The fans want to like Sheamus, and a heel turn would make him one of the most intriguing characters in the company moving forward.
