Knicks Set to Become Worst Team to Ever Host All-Star Game
With a horrid 10-43 record, the first half of this season has certainly been a disappointment for the New York Knicks.
While Sunday's All-Star Game at Madison Square Garden will serve as some consolation for the franchise, the Knicks' current .189 winning percentage is the worst ever for an NBA All-Star weekend host team, per Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN Stats & Info).
New York entered this season under new management, with Phil Jackson stepping in as team president and disciple Derek Fisher being named head coach just weeks after ending his playing career.
While those changes figured to take time to pay off, the Knicks' poor start has fallen short of even the tempered expectations.
Two seasons removed from a 54-win campaign, New York's present totals of 10 wins and 43 losses rank last league-wide in both categories, per ESPN.com.
Furthermore, the Knicks have been without eight-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony for 13 games this season due to injuries, and have yet to win without their franchise player.
Anthony has most notably been bothered by a knee injury, and despite his intention of playing a few minutes in Sunday's All-Star showcase, it's "very likely" Anthony will sit out for the remainder of this season following Sunday's game, ESPN reports.
Overall, the Knicks' nightmare season is hardly the way the franchise envisioned welcoming this weekend's All-Star festivities to New York City.
