WWE's Top Tweets, Instagram Photos and Viral Videos for Week of Feb. 9

Ryan DilbertFeb 13, 2015

Twitter, YouTube and Instagram became venues for WWE stars to pay tribute to the fallen, the funny and the future.

The best WWE-related social media of the week touched on the Grammy Awards, NXT TakeOver: Rival and Sting. For Paige and Curtis Axel, the Internet was also a place to share sadness. The end result was a hodgepodge of items ranging from uplifting to uproarious.

We begin with a bit of gimmick infringement.

When Kim Kardashian sauntered down the red carpet at the Grammys, WWE fans had flashbacks. As Tommy Dreamer noted on Twitter, her outfit looked like something out of a certain Hall of Famer's playbook:

The week was also a time of reflection for many about Ric Flair's old ally and rival, Curt Hennig.

Feb. 10 marked a full 12 years since Hennig's death. It's hard to believe it's been that long since we've seen his excellent in-ring play, that it's been a dozen years since he last swatted a wad of gum out of the air.

Curtis Axel shared a powerful message about his late father:

The wrestling world lost another family member much more recently. Drew McDonald passed away on Feb. 9.

The Scottish bruiser had a long career in various promotions in the United Kingdom, where he battled with and against such names as William Regal, Fit Finlay and Giant Haystacks. McDonald, as WWE.com notes, helped Paige get into WWE.

She paid tribute to him on Raw, bearing his name on her arms. WWE captured the moment on Instagram:

After thinking about the loss of McDonald and the anniversary of Hennig's death, one might need a bit of cheering up. Maybe that's what inspired WWE to compile a collection of some of the funniest moments in company history.

This is not a perfect list by any means, but there is plenty of great stuff to relive:

The show that the NXT roster put on at the latest TakeOver special is something fans relived right after it aired and will likely treasure for a long time to come. The event featured a number of great performances, with Kevin Owens' chief among them.

Owens throttled Sami Zayn to win the NXT Championship.

After looking like an unfeeling beast on TV, Owens showed off another side of himself on Twitter, tweeting cute shots of his kid playing with his newly won title:

Finn Balor had an excellent night as well. He defeated Adrian Neville to become the No. 1 contender for Owens' belt. For that clash, he once again emerged from the curtains covered in body paint.

WWE's Instagram showed him post-battle, with much of the paint gone:

Triple H was impressed with NXT TakeOver: Rival. He has to be a proud papa as NXT, his baby, continues to grow. That was evident from his tweets that night.

The most memorable of those made reference to Vince McMahon's now-famous "brass ring" comments:

As he so often does, The Game wore several hats this week. He was the cheerleader and overseer of NXT, and on Raw, he was the executive tyrant anxious for a showdown with Sting.

WWE has done a tremendous job of creating a mystique around The Icon. That continued Monday night.

He answered Triple H's challenge in a way that grabbed hold of the audience's attention. The clip of that moment currently has nearly a million views:

This video was well worth sharing by any medium available. The production team hit another home run here.

It won't be long before they will have to craft videos and vignettes for NXT's best. Owens, Neville, Balor and Zayn are coming, brass rings firmly in their grip.
