Darren Young Receives Support After Criticism of WWE Tour of UAE

Mike ChiariFeb 11, 2015

Superstar Darren Young sounded off about WWE's upcoming tour of Abu Dhabi Tuesday night, and he has since received plenty of support through social media.

Young is renowned as WWE's first openly gay Superstar, and he made his feelings known regarding the company's decision to hold shows in the United Arab Emirates despite the country's stance against homosexuality.

In a tweet that has since been deleted, Young questioned the logic behind WWE gracing the UAE with its presence, according to Marc Middleton of WrestlingInc.com.

"Why do we bring the best entertainment into a country like abu dhabi and they look down upon women and gays? I get it! #MillionsofDollars," he wrote.

After deleting that tweet, Young posted another one suggesting that he may have been asked to back down from his initial statement:

He then tweeted about feeling as though nobody supported his feelings on the matter:

What followed was a steady stream of positive tweets from many of Young's admirers. That included former WWE Superstars such as Lance Storm:

Former D-Generation X member X-Pac also made it clear that he was behind the outspoken Superstar:

Even WWE itself released a statement regarding the situation in which it sympathized with Young and supported his right to be opinionated on social media, per Middleton.

"

WWE does not discriminate against individuals regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation, and we continue to proudly support Fred Rosser (aka WWE Superstar Darren Young) for being open about his sexuality.

Unfortunately, WWE cannot change cultures and laws around the world, and thus we did not send Fred Rosser to the United Arab Emirates for our upcoming events for his own protection.

WWE also fully supports Fred Rosser's right to express his views on personal social media accounts rather than WWE's corporate platforms.

"

There is no question that this is a very difficult situation since WWE's business dealings conflict with Young's personal feelings regarding the United Arab Emirates.

If nothing else, though, it is abundantly clear that Young has plenty of backers who will stand beside him even if he feels as though WWE isn't willing to.
