Baron Corbin vs. Bull Dempsey: Winner and Reaction from NXT TakeOver Rival Event

Baron Corbin's dominant run in NXT continued Wednesday night as the mysterious big man defeated Bull Dempsey in a No Disqualification match at NXT TakeOver: Rival.

WWE's Twitter feed provided a look at his mocking celebration: 

NXT Diva Alexa Bliss gave her thoughts on the match, which saw Corbin land a huge spinebuster to help score the win:

Corbin and Dempsey have been engaged in a feud for the past few months based largely on one-upmanship. They both rolled through a number of low-level competitors before finally clashing on a couple of occasions prior to Rival.

NXT's Lone Wolf won both of those matches over Bull, but the self-professed Last of a Dying Breed got some measure of retribution against Corbin prior to the live special. Dempsey interfered in Corbin's match against Adrian Neville in the No. 1 contender's tournament for the NXT Championship and ultimately cost him the win.

That defeat motivated Corbin to take his frustrations out on Bull at Rival:

Despite the fact that Corbin seemingly had Dempsey's number, the Brooklyn, New York, native made it clear he planned to finally strike a blow against the former NFL offensive lineman:

Based on the manner in which they have been built, though, Corbin entered Rival as a fairly substantial favorite. Prior to his loss against Neville, Corbin was undefeated at NXT, with the vast majority of his victories coming in a matter of seconds.

Dempsey was quite similar in that regard until he ran into the Baron buzz saw. Bull didn't just lose to Corbin—he lost decisively. He also backed down from Corbin a couple of times, which took him from dominant monster heel to cowardly heel territory.

Bull had a chance to change that perception at Rival, but the decision was made to put Corbin over once again in an attempt to enhance his emergence as one of NXT's most destructive forces.

There is no question the 30-year-old Superstar still has plenty of developing left to do in terms of his in-ring work, mic skills and character development. At the same time, he has an undeniable presence, which simply can't be taught.

Since one can only assume that the Corbin vs. Dempsey feud is over now that they have faced off three times, it will be very interesting to see where NXT goes from here with both individuals.

Corbin certainly isn't ready for the main event scene yet, but he is the type of guy the NXT higher-ups will undoubtedly want to keep relevant.

As far as Dempsey is concerned, he could benefit from the fact that NXT is currently lacking in terms of top heels. He didn't gain momentum from his feud with Corbin, but there is still an opening for him to advance.

Corbin and Dempsey are intriguing prospects to say the least, and the manner in which they are handled moving forward will have a sizable impact on the success of NXT.
