Blake Griffin Injury: Twitter Reacts to Clippers Star Undergoing Elbow Surgery
The Los Angeles Clippers and the Western Conference All-Stars were dealt a huge blow Sunday, as the Clippers announced Blake Griffin would require surgery on his elbow and would be out indefinitely.
The team passed along the news on Twitter:
Ramona Shelburne of ESPN added more details about Griffin's projected recovery time:
Indeed, one would guess the Clippers would take the conservative route with a player of Griffin's importance.
Given Griffin's history of elbow issues, the news Sunday can't be viewed as a huge surprise, per Dan Woike of the Orange County Register:
Griffin has been excellent in 2014-15, averaging 22.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, and he was justifiably voted by the fans as one of the starters for the Western Conference in this year's NBA All-Star Game. With Griffin out, though, his spot in the game is up for grabs, and Marc Stein of ESPN outlined the process for replacing him:
It's been a rough year for the starters on the West team, that's for certain.
But the show must go on, and Brett Poirier of Sheridan Hoops speculated on one player who could replace Griffin:
John Schuhmann of NBA.com had a different pick:
For a Clippers team that is 33-18, currently sixth in the Western Conference, this is obviously a huge loss. While Los Angeles will hope that Griffin can return as soon as possible as the Clippers enter the push for the playoffs, it's also vitally important that Griffin is given the necessary time to recover properly to nip this issue in the bud, especially given the nature of the procedure.
The Clippers can still make the playoffs without Griffin in action for a month or two while he recovers. But they most certainly cannot win a championship without him if there are any complications in his recovery.
