Power Ranking the 5 Most Likely WrestleMania 31 Moments

Ryan DilbertFeb 4, 2015

Sting, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns will have prominent parts in WrestleMania 31's biggest moments.

The marquee event promises to be the stage on which Sting says goodbye and Reigns slides into his throne. WWE has gone beyond the hinting stage that Sting will clash with Triple H come WrestleMania. He is likely to head into the proverbial sunset just as Reigns rises.

What WWE has foreshadowed and what bouts are rumored clue fans in on what memory-creating moments are headed to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Merging that info with the company's past booking patterns helps decide which of these are most likely. It would be thrilling to see Daniel Bryan swipe the WWE title from Brock Lesnar's hands, but that's far from probable. Reigns' coronation is the much safer bet.

Honorable Mention

1 of 6
  • Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler steal the show.
  • Dean Ambrose wins Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

With as tremendous as Bryan and Ziggler are in the ring, pitting them against each other, both with plenty to prove, is surely going to be excellent. Even with Bryan getting a crack at the No. 1 contender's spot at Fast Lane, this is likely the path WWE takes with him.

According to F4WOnline (h/t Wrestle Zone), Vince McMahon is against putting Bryan in the main event a la last year.

If he faces Ziggler instead, the chances of an instant classic are high. The biggest obstacle to that is WWE cutting down their ring time. There are a number of big bouts expected to fill up the card, and it's not certain the company will value this one enough.

Ambrose, meanwhile, is likely headed for the "we don't have anywhere else to put you" Battle Royal. His burgeoning rivalry with Bad News Barrett may just end up leading to a match at Fast Lane. There may not be enough space on the WrestleMania card for their fight for the Intercontinental Championship.

The Lunatic Fringe would be the biggest star in that Battle Royal, a borderline main eventer stuck in a midcard match.

Having Ambrose win would make it feel significant. He'll enter as the favorite if that's where WWE assigns him.

Both these moments are far from guarantees, however, as neither man is assured of being in these matches. Bryan could end up facing someone like Sheamus. Ambrose could be tangling with Barrett on the pre-show.

5. Damien Mizdow Gets His Revenge

2 of 6

WWE has turned up the heat on the tension between The Miz and Damien Mizdow. An implosion is coming.

On Monday's Raw, The Miz fired Mizdow from his stunt double position, only to immediately offer him a job as his personal assistant. Rather than just be oblivious and insulting of Mizdow, The Miz has become more overtly abusive.

The timing of this escalation sets things up well for Mizdow to trounce The Miz at WrestleMania.

They can split officially at Fast Lane. The buildup to their showdown can then begin. And then Mizdow's biggest moment happens on WWE's biggest stage.

The reason to hesitate on betting on things going down like that is that Goldust and Stardust are having major issues as well. The brothers have been bickering loudly as of late.

WWE may choose to have Goldust vs. Stardust at WrestleMania and delay Mizdow's win. It's hard to imagine the same show featuring two such similar climaxes.

4. Rusev's 1st True Loss

3 of 6

Rusev has to eventually fall. To have it happen at WrestleMania is a smart use of that storyline. To have John Cena be the one to take him down would be par for the course.

WWE books Cena like a superhero and portrays heels as the villains he rolls over in the name of all things good. Cena has taken down Ryback, Mark Henry, Seth Rollins and Bray Wyatt in the last two years. The company is clearly not comfortable in letting him lose often.

That points to Rusev tasting his first decisive loss.

The bolder move would be to have Rusev knock off Cena and continue his streak past WrestleMania. The power that would have on Rusev's career has to be tempting for WWE. There's also the off chance that the company jumps the gun on that moment and has it happen at Fast Lane.

Those possibilities infuse a tinge of doubt into this scenario playing out as many predict. WrestleMania's top matches offer more predictable moments.

3. Seth Rollins Cashes in

4 of 6

No one has ever cashed in their Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania, but chances are good that Seth Rollins makes history.

Him pouncing on the champion, briefcase in hand, opens the door for a number of narrative options for WWE. Should Brock Lesnar retain, WWE can still take the title off him just as his contract expires. Should Roman Reigns overcome The Beast Incarnate, the company can restart a feud that hernia surgery interrupted last year.

And if WWE changes its mind and sends Daniel Bryan into the main event, Rollins can garner nuclear heat by ending his title reign immediately following his win over Lesnar.

With as much confidence as WWE has put in Rollins and how well he has come through time and time again, giving him the spotlight here as the scavenger who celebrates last is a strong possibility.

Sting and Reigns' journeys, though, are taking a more predictable path. They offer the safest bets for WrestleMania moments.

2. Sting's Swan Song

5 of 6

WWE couldn't make it clearer that Sting is facing Triple H at WrestleMania. In both of Sting's WWE appearances, he has defied and angered The Game. Triple H has since called him out, demanding a face-to-face meeting at Fast Lane.

When that battle finally happens, it promises to be Sting's last.

The TNA Hall of Famer is 55 years old now. He hasn't wrestled a match since last January. And he competed just four times that year, per CageMatch.net

Unless he can be sure that The Undertaker will be healthy enough to compete at WrestleMania 32 (which he can't), there's little reason that he would suit up again. There's a certain mystique created by him just coming in for one showdown and leaving.

It would allow him to check off "work a WrestleMania" and "wrestle for WWE" from his checklist and move on with the part of his life that doesn't require him taking bumps.

1. Roman Reigns Gets His Crown

6 of 6

Roman Reigns stepped into Batista's shoes when he won the Royal Rumble amid thunderous boos. He will do so again at WrestleMania, ending the main event as champ, just as The Animal did at WrestleMania 21.

WWE made it clear that Reigns was headed to a Rumble win by booking him so strongly, making him a wrecking ball of a babyface. He won again and again in preparation for that bout.

Expect the same treatment headed to WrestleMania.

Reigns' date with Daniel Bryan will set him up for a clash with Brock Lesnar. WWE is in search of a new franchise centerpiece. It has made it clear that it doesn't believe that Bryan fits that role. Reigns' look, lineage and explosiveness is getting him that chance.

Add in the whispers of Lesnar heading for UFC again, and a Reigns victory becomes as inevitable as any outcome on the WrestleMania horizon.
