Prince Tega Wanogho Commits to Auburn: Versatile 4-Star Gives Tigers Huge Upside

Prince Tega Wanogho Jr. moved to America last August, reclassified into the 2015 class last month and recently suffered a broken leg on the basketball court. 

The Nigerian transplant is also Auburn's newest commitment—one who comes with limited experience but tremendous upside.

The 6'8", 250-pound prospect revealed his intentions to the Tigers' coaching staff Tuesday, according to Andrew Bone of Rivals:

The report was quickly confirmed by several sources through Bobby Carr, who coached Wanogho at Edgewood Academy in Alabama.

"Tega has decided to sign with Auburn tomorrow on signing day," he told Keith Niebuhr of 247Sports.

He warranted nationwide attention after his lone season of football in 2014, securing scholarship offers from Kentucky, Texas, LSU, Tennessee, Georgia and Notre Dame since December. The frenzied recruitment caught plenty of industry experts by surprise and even shocked Wanogho.

“It’s really weird, because seriously, I don’t really understand,” he told John Garcia Jr. of Scout.com. “I don’t really know what’s going on right now. I’m just being blessed, and I’m enjoying the moment. I know I’m getting a scholarship, and I know I’m going to school, and that’s what comes first."

Auburn eventually finished ahead the pack in a pursuit that picked up pace following his reclassification as a senior. The Tigers extended an offer on Jan. 6 and hosted him on campus last weekend.

He is currently recovering from a gruesome leg injury. Wanogho suffered a tibia/fibula fracture while playing basketball and underwent surgery just two weeks ago.

The timetable for his rehabilitation would make him "good to go" by May, per John Talty of AL.com.

The anticipated return lines up well for an early summer arrival on campus. Auburn coaches will be tasked with continuing his education in the game, while figuring out where exactly he fits on the field.

There's a possibility he'll end up at offensive tackle or even become a super-sized tight end, but Wanogho is listed as a strong-side defensive end in 247Sports' composite rankings.

Despite limited exposure, he's rated eighth nationally among prospects at the position and 110th overall in the 2015 class.

That's lofty praise for a player who will make a major leap in competition later this year. 

Bleacher Report national recruiting analyst Sanjay Kirpalani scouted the newcomer during B/R's CFB Recruiting 200 series.

Wanogho is the definition of a prospect with unlimited upside. His size and athleticism jumps out immediately upon viewing his film, as does his lack of technique. He's also got great speed and a high motor. However, for a prospect so new to the game, college coaches may view him as a blank slate with a grade A frame who could be molded into a dominant force. 

"

College programs likely weren't recruiting him to make an immediate impact. Instead, they competed to bring him in as a project and see what coaching can produce in 2016 and beyond.

Auburn earned the opportunity to develop a relative unknown. Wanogho will be a prospect worth monitoring on the Tigers' practice field throughout his initial college campaign.

He brings Auburn's commitment total to 21 players in a class that currently rates 12th in 247Sports' composite rankings.
