Michigan Flips WR Recruit Grant Perry from Northwestern
Now that Jim Harbaugh is settled in at Michigan, no committed recruit appears safe.
The new Wolverines coach orchestrated another flip on Tuesday, with 3-star wide receiver Grant Perry backing off his pledge to Northwestern after getting offered by Michigan.
Rated by 247Sports as the No. 870 player in the 2015 class and the 110th-best overall wideout, the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, product had been committed to Northwestern since early December. However, that appeared to be a soft commit (over the likes of Ball State, Bowling Green and Nevada), as he had been angling for an offer from the Wolverines all along, according to Steve Lorenz of 247Sports.
The 6'0", 188-pound receiver won three state titles for Brother Rice High School, where in 2014 he set the Michigan single-season record for receptions with 105 catches for 1,727 yards and 20 touchdowns, per Nick Baumgardner of MLive.com. Perry is a former teammate of fellow Michigan commit Alex Malzone, a 4-star quarterback who committed to former Wolverines coach Brady Hoke in May and has already enrolled in school.
Michigan's 2015 recruiting class now stands at 10 players less than a day before national signing day, and four of those have come since Harbaugh was hired in January. All four of them were flipped from other schools, including former Texas quarterback commit Zach Gentry.
| Zach Gentry | QB | 4 | Texas | Jan. 24 |
| Reuben Jones | DE | 3 | Nebraska | Jan. 25 |
| Grant Perry | WR | 3 | Northwestern | Feb. 3 |
| Nolan Ulizio | OT | 3 | Connecticut | Jan. 24 |
More flips could come, as the three players Michigan hosted for official visits last weekend—wide receivers Deontay Burnett and Van Jefferson and cornerback Jarius Adams—were all committed to other programs at the time.
The Wolverines have an immediate opening in the receiving unit, as top wideout Devin Funchess turned pro after leading the team in receptions (62), yards (733) and touchdowns (four) last season.
