Ferrari ended the final day of the Formula One pre-season testing session in Jerez, Spain, on a high, as Kimi Raikkonen clocked the fastest lap of the week during Wednesday's morning session.

The Finn finished with a time of 1:20.841 on soft tyres, giving the Scuderia the top spot for the third time in four days. AUTOSPORT Live shared the 35-year-old's final lap time:

Defending world champion Lewis Hamilton overcame a spin during the morning session to complete more than 100 laps. A fastest-lap time of 1:22.172 put him well behind Raikkonen, however, as Mercedes can't be too happy with how the first round of testing in Jerez played out.

McLaren managed just 79 laps before a problem with the fuel pump ended Jenson Button's session abruptly, and the team failed to get the car ready to run again in time, via Twitter:

Here are the standings from the final day of testing in Jerez:

Ferrari will undoubtedly be happy with the week of testing, topping the standings in three of four sessions, while Sauber, powered by a Ferrari engine, managed to clock the fastest time on Tuesday through Felipe Nasr.

After last year's debacle, the Prancing Horse could be in for a huge comeback, and Raikkonen told BBC Sport he has an excellent feeling going into the new season:

"

You usually know if a car is good or not, and this year is a completely different story to last year. The whole team has clearly done a very good job over the winter as it was a positive first day, with a lot of improvements in areas where we had difficulties.

The atmosphere is very good within the team.

It's early days, but it's great to see how good it is, how well people are working together, and with Sebastian (Vettel) we have a good relationship so we can push the team forward.

"

New team-mate Sebastian Vettel clocked the second-fastest time in Jerez on Monday, and given the team's struggles in 2014, that came as a big surprise. Three days later, however, it appears the iconic red Ferrari could be a major player during the 2015 campaign.

Lap times in testing should always be taken with a pinch of salt, but given the dominance of Raikkonen, Vettel and the new car throughout the week, the signs look encouraging heading into the next phase of testing, in Barcelona later this month.

Sauber also continued their strong performance on Wednesday, with Marcus Ericsson finishing the day in second place, just over a second behind Raikkonen. Hamilton finished in third, via F1 Paddock Pass:

The Brit caused a stoppage during the morning session, spinning out in the chicane. A total of 117 laps is still a promising signal for team Mercedes, who rightfully congratulated the world champion via Twitter:

Red Bull's Daniil Kvyat saved his best times for last but failed to crack the top six, and Button's disappointing amount of laps coupled with Fernando Alonso's struggles on Tuesday means McLaren will travel to Barcelona with plenty of questions to answer.

As ever, Wednesday's action saw a handful of minor incidents, including Hamilton's spin, a stoppage from Nasr in the afternoon session and some kind of stray object in the middle of the pit-straight, which forced officials to fly the red flag.

Apart from the racing, there was big news surrounding the fate of team Marussia as well, as Sky Sports' William Esler reports the team plans to enter the 2015 season under the name Manor Grand Prix Limited and expects to be ready in time to take part in the Australian Grand Prix.
