Odds of Tom Brady's Repeating as Super Bowl MVP in 2016

Timothy RappFeb 1, 2015

Tom Brady is the most decorated quarterback in Super Bowl history.

He has the most touchdown passes, completions, attempts and passing yards in the NFL's title game, per NFL.com.

He's tied with Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana with the most Super Bowl victories for a quarterback (four) in the history of the game, is tied for the most Super Bowl appearances and is tied with Montana for the most Super Bowl MVP awards (three), per ESPN Stats & Info.

So why couldn't he win another Super Bowl MVP next season? Seriously, are you going to bet against him?

We're talking about the man who went 37-of-50 for 328 passing yards and four touchdowns against the Legion of Boom. Sure, he threw two interceptions, but he also led the Patriots to a win after trailing the Seahawks by 10 points in the fourth quarter. He's 37 years old, for heaven's sake. It's hard to imagine he'll suddenly crumble at the age of 38.

Heck, he just seems to be getting better with age, as Trent Dilfer of ESPN noted, via SportsCenter on Twitter:

It's just as hard to imagine that the Patriots won't be in the postseason mix next year. Bill Belichick isn't going anywhere, after all.

And it's not as though Brady will somehow lose his ability to come up big in the clutch. He was loose as ever down the stretch, as Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports found out after the game:

Mike Wise of ESPN.com, meanwhile, thinks Brady cemented his place atop the pantheon of NFL quarterbacks:

So, yes, the chances of Brady winning the Super Bowl MVP next season are pretty high. I'm not an oddsmaker by any stretch, so it's hard to put an exact number on his chances. If you were giving me Brady or the field, I'd probably take the field. But if you were giving me straight odds on individual players, he'd be my safest bet.

I'm not sure you can really put any player at anything higher than 15-1 odds, so that's where I'd put Brady's chances of repeating as the game's MVP. If I had to pick just one player to win the award next year, I'd be hard-pressed to find a player I felt better about than Brady.

Maybe the Pats repeat next year as Super Bowl champs, maybe not. But when it comes to placing bets on which players will come up clutch in the Super Bowl, history tells us Brady is a pretty darn safe player to put your chips on.
