Super Bowl National Anthem 2015: Time and Payouts for Idina Menzel's Rendition
Any event as seismic as the 2015 Super Bowl deserves the proper beginning, and Idina Menzel delivered just that with the singing of the American national anthem.
While the shift focused immediately to what was about to unfold on the football field after her rendition was complete, Menzel stole the show for a little over two minutes with her performance. And with it reaching over two minutes, she hit the over, as ESPN's Darren Rovell unofficially reported:

Singing any national anthem is a heap of pressure for even the best of performers, but Menzel had her hands full on perhaps the biggest stage in America Sunday evening.

And she didn't disappoint, belting out an awe-inspiring rendition of the "The Star-Spangled Banner" that drew direct comparisons to Whitney Houston's 1991 singing of the anthem at the Super Bowl. One could have expected her to go in Houston's style after she paid tribute to the legend on Twitter two weeks before the Super Bowl.
The performance was minimally skewed by some noticeable boos coming from the crowd, which ended up being directed at Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who was shown on the Jumbotron, per The Tennessean's Jim Wyatt:
The singing of the anthem is a time of anticipation and nerves even for the viewers at home, so it's hard to imagine how those same feelings resonated with the players on the sideline. Former receiver Donte Stallworth—who had his fill of the Super Bowl spotlight with the Patriots—shared what it felt like to be in those shoes:
But while that is an all-important moment for those players, the national anthem is nothing more than a chance to make money for others. And those who bet the over seemingly did just that.
With the time coming so close to what was predicted by the oddsmakers, it may end up coming down to how it's timed by various folks. But all indications after Menzel's inspiring performance are that the over took it.
