Tennessee Football Recruiting: Predicting All the Recruits Who Will Sign on NSD
National signing day 2015 is almost here, and the Tennessee Volunteers are close to inking their second consecutive top-10 recruiting class.
With head coach Butch Jones and his staff putting in so much work throughout the season, Tennessee's class has been nearly full for months now, limiting the amount of potential drama that could occur on Wednesday.
However, that doesn't mean the Vols have had it easy these past few weeks. In fact, January was a busy month for the staff, with Kyle Phillips, Sheriron Jones and Quart'e Sapp all committing, while players like Marques Ford and Kendall Bussey recently decommitted.
Is the drama over for the Vols? Considering there are 28 recruits in the 2015 class with potentially only 25 spots, it's a good bet that there are still a few decommitments, new commitments and general insanity to come.
Here's a look at all 18 non-early enrollee commitments in Tennessee's class along with a prediction for where their letters of intent end up on Wednesday.
Micah Abernathy
1 of 19
Defensive back Micah Abernathy, the younger brother of former Cincinnati Bearcats athlete and recent Vols transfer Ralph David Abernathy IV, committed to Tennessee on Oct. 10, 2014.
Don't expect any curveballs here when he faxes his letter of intent to Rocky Top on Wednesday to join his older brother on Tennessee's roster in 2015.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Venzell Boulware
2 of 19
A big-time commitment at a position of need, Venzell Boulware is someone Tennessee needs to hang onto at all costs.
Fortunately for Jones and offensive line coach Don Mahoney, the Vols appear to have weathered the storm, as Boulware rebuffed advances from the Georgia Bulldogs and head coach Mark Richt down the stretch.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Jocquez Bruce
3 of 19
The sole hometown player in Tennessee's 2015 recruiting class, there were a few questions about Jocquez Bruce's status among this year's crop of recruits—especially once Jones and his staff started stockpiling highly talented players.
However, look for Bruce to keep his spot in this year's class and ink his decision to play a stone's throw from his house on national signing day.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Sheriron Jones
4 of 19
The Vols pulled a coup by getting a commitment from dual-threat quarterback Sheriron Jones on Jan. 8.
Originally a Florida Gators commit, Jones' original interest in Tennessee was a bit of a surprise considering he would have to compete against two other highly rated quarterbacks in the 2015 class—both early enrollees.
But if there's anything Jones lacks, it's a fear of competition. Jones will hold steady to his commitment on national signing day and be right in the thick of the competition for the backup quarterback spot in fall camp.
NSD Prediction: Vols
John Kelly
5 of 19
A relatively late pickup for the Vols, John Kelly committed to Tennessee on Jan. 22 after mulling offers from Michigan and Michigan State.
With the recent decommitment of Kendall Bussey, Kelly has a good chance to enter his freshman season as the No. 3 running back and see some real playing time.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Riley Lovingood
6 of 19
Despite being a recruit who can make a big difference for the Vols on special teams for four years, Riley Lovingood may not be needed just yet—especially in a class that's already bursting at the seams.
Long snapper Matt Giampapa is a redshirt senior and still has one more season left to play, so this situation could get interesting on Wednesday.
Although he could certainly benefit from a year waiting in the wings and learning from Giampapa, watch for the coaches to work out a grayshirt situation for Lovingood and welcome him to campus in spring 2016.
NSD Prediction: Vols, but not with this class
Justin Martin
7 of 19
One of a handful of players who can start immediately in 2015 for the Vols, Justin Martin spurned the LSU Tigers to commit to the Vols on New Year's Eve 2014.
Despite other SEC schools still pursuing him, Martin appears locked in and ready to begin his future on Rocky Top by sending his letter of intent to Tennessee on Feb. 4.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Kahlil McKenzie
8 of 19
The crown jewel of Tennessee's 2015 recruiting class, Kahlil McKenzie is a lock to not only sign with the Vols on Wednesday, but also to be a dominant force on their defensive line for years to come.
Rated the No. 2 defensive tackle in the country and No. 6 composite player in the nation per 247Sports, McKenzie is one of Tennessee's highest-rated commitments in years and has an excellent chance of becoming an impact player from day one.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Darrell Miller
9 of 19
Cornerback Darrell Miller committed to Tennessee in July 2014 and has been relatively quiet since then.
Given the Vols' need for talented players in the defensive backfield, Miller will have an excellent chance at competing for playing time right away. No depth chart or number issues here.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Kyle Oliver
10 of 19
Like Darrell Miller, Kyle Oliver is a talented recruit at a position where Tennessee needs depth.
With only Ethan Wolf and redshirt senior Alex Ellis in the two-deep at tight end, Oliver could see the field right away in 2015.
Despite rumors of a blue or grayshirt in his future, look for Oliver to sign with the Vols on Wednesday and arrive on campus later this summer.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Vincent Perry
11 of 19
Vincent Perry has the speed and explosiveness to play all over the field for Tennessee.
A true athlete and all-purpose back, Perry is the type of player who can be ready to play a variety of positions at a moment's notice that every SEC program needs.
With so many potential positions open to him in the future, from running back to punt returner, Perry has a great chance to carve out a niche early on at Tennessee.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Quay Picou
12 of 19
Kahlil McKenzie, Shy Tuttle and Kyle Phillips have received the majority of the hype when it comes to Tennessee's 2015 defensive line haul, but don't sleep on Quay Picou.
At 6'2" and 271 pounds, Picou will likely need to bulk up a bit to eventually play inside, but he's a high-quality tackle who has the potential to excel with a few years of strength and conditioning.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Quart'e Sapp
13 of 19
One of Tennessee's most recent commitments, Quart'e Sapp was long considered a Vols lean until he finally made it official last week.
As one of the top-rated outside linebackers, Sapp can get quality reps as a backup to Jalen Reeves-Maybin in 2015 and possibly take over for him if he heads to the NFL after his junior season.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Austin Smith
14 of 19
Like Sapp, Austin Smith is another outside linebacker with a high ceiling.
Smith committed to Tennessee in June 2014, despite receiving offers from schools like Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
While he's only a 3-star recruit according to 247Sports, offer lists frequently tell the true tale of a prospect's abilities, and that means Smith is certainly one to watch in fall camp.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Zach Stewart
15 of 19
Offensive lineman Zach Stewart committed to the Vols nearly two years ago, long before his recruiting process ever really had a chance to get underway.
Stewart hails from Coalfield, Tennessee, which is less than an hour drive from Knoxville.
With Tennessee's offensive line losing three starters after 2015 and his own commitment to the Vols spanning nearly two years, don't expect Stewart to end up anywhere other than Rocky Top on Wednesday.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Darrell Taylor
16 of 19
Like Picou, Darrell Taylor's name is a bit overshadowed by some of his peers in Tennessee's defensive line haul.
Despite touting a 4-star rating of his own, according to 247Sports, Taylor will arrive in Knoxville with much to prove. But at 6'4", 230 pounds and a 4.6 40-yard dash time in his arsenal, he has every chance to beat out more highly rated recruits to establish himself in the rotation early.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Tommy Townsend
17 of 19
Although Tommy Townsend might normally be an ideal candidate for a delayed enrollment situation, the fact that punter Matt Darr just graduated and the Vols have virtually no one else at that position makes Townsend a lock to fax his letter of intent on Wednesday and likely handle the punting duties as soon as he arrives in Knoxville.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Preston Williams
18 of 19
Preston Williams' commitment to Tennessee came immediately after Tennessee's loss to the Florida Gators back in Sept. 2013.
After nearly a year and a half, it looks like the Vols will manage to hold onto him, despite serious efforts to flip him by nearly every college in the South.
Williams caused a bit of a stir when he arrived at Auburn for his official visit recently wearing Tennessee gear, and given his dedication to the Vols, don't expect him to end up anywhere else on Wednesday.
NSD Prediction: Vols
Drew Richmond
19 of 19
The last known remaining target for Tennessee in the class of 2015, Drew Richmond spent the weekend in Knoxville enjoying the red-carpet treatment.
From a pricey dinner with Butch Jones, Kyle Phillips and Darrin Kirkland Jr., to the crowd chanting his name at the Vols basketball game vs. Auburn, Tennessee went all out in its efforts to flip Richmond from Ole Miss during the past three days.
Despite the Vols getting his last visit, Richmond is still committed to the Rebels, and Oxford, Mississippi, is simply much closer to his home than Knoxville.
Still, it's tough to bet against Butch Jones when the stakes are high—and with Tennessee's class trending up and Ole Miss's trending down, look for Richmond to choose the Vols on Wednesday and seal the deal for Tennessee to finish with another top recruiting class.
