Ohio State Football Recruiting: Predicting All the Recruits Who Will Sign on NSD

David RegimbalFeb 1, 2015

Fresh off their national championship victory, Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes are primed to sign another Top 10 recruiting class.

When national signing day rolls around on Wednesday, years of hard work will come to a head as the Buckeyes' 2015 recruiting class will be solidified. Ohio State already has 24 commitments in the fold, four of whom enrolled early, but there are sure to be a few surprises on signing day.

Will the Buckeyes be able to hold on to their current commits? Will they be able to add to their already impressive class?

Here's a prediction of how Ohio State will close things out on Wednesday.

Note: * indicates a player who enrolled early.

Quarterback

1 of 9

Torrance Gibson, 4-Star Dual Threat Quarterback

Joe Burrow, 4-Star Dual Threat Quarterback

Ohio State proved its ability to develop quarterbacks during the course of the 2014 season, when backups J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones orchestrated an improbable national title run.

While that helps the Buckeyes when they hit the recruiting trail, their current depth chart could scare one of their top prospects away. Currently, 4-star quarterback Torrance Gibson is weighing his options after visiting Auburn, LSU and Miami in recent weeks.

Gibson will make his final decision on signing day. Expect for him to stick with his commitment, joining Joe Burrow at Ohio State.

Running Back

2 of 9

Michael Weber, 4-Star Running Back

Before Urban Meyer arrived at Ohio State, one thing that hurt him on the recruiting trail was the fact that he hadn't produced a single 1,000-yard running back throughout his career.

That changed quickly when he took over in Columbus. Carlos Hyde rushed for 1,521 yards in 2013, and last season, Ezekiel Elliott broke out for 1,878.

That will be the deciding factor in Michael Weber sticking with his commitment.

The 4-star ball-carrier out of Detroit pledged to Ohio State in December, but the home-state Wolverines have been coming hard after him since hiring Jim Harbaugh. While the pull of staying home will be strong, Weber will spurn Michigan and sign with Ohio State.

Wide Receiver

3 of 9

K.J. Hill, 4-Star Wide Receiver

Alex Stump, 4-Star Wide Receiver

Despite losing its most explosive playmaker in Devin Smith, Ohio State boasts incredible depth at wide receiver. With 2013-14 classes that included receivers such as Jalin MarshallDontre WilsonJames ClarkCorey SmithJohnnie Dixon and Parris Campbell, the Buckeyes didn't need to load up on pass-catchers this year.

That won't stop Urban Meyer from bringing in two solid playmakers.

Alex Stump already offered his verbal pledge, but K.J. Hill has yet to announce his decision. The 6'0", 188-pound receiver out of North Little Rock, Arkansas, was a heavy lean to Arkansas early, but the Buckeyes have surged over the last few weeks.

Hill was in town on January 24 to watch Ohio State celebrate its national title victory, a trip that will turn out to be the deciding factor in his recruitment.

TIght End

4 of 9

A.J. Alexander, 3-Star Tight End

Ohio State failed to sign a tight end in its 2014 class, so it was important for Urban Meyer to land one this year.

The Buckeyes found their man early, getting a commitment from A.J. Alexander in early September. The 6'4", 220-pound pass-catcher is listed as a wide receiver athlete by 247Sports, but he projects to tight end at the collegiate level.

Alexander will have a chance to earn early playing time as a freshman. With Jeff Heuerman graduating, the backup spot behind Nick Vannett will be a wide-open battle with Marcus Baugh.

Offensive Line

5 of 9

Matthew Burrell, 4-Star Offensive Guard

Grant Schmidt, 3-Star Offensive Tackle

Kevin Feder, 3-Star Offensive Tackle *

Branden Bowen, 3-Star Offensive Tackle

Mirko Jurkovic, 3-Star Offensive Guard

Anyone who watched Ohio State's run through the College Football Playoff saw how much Urban Meyer relies on his offensive line.

The Buckeyes bulldozed their final three opponents, running for an average of 292.7 yards per game behind the strength of an offensive line that surged throughout the year.

Ohio State's future looks bright with this year's impressive haul. Four-star offensive guard Matthew Burrell, who verbally pledged to the Buckeyes over offers from Florida State, LSU, Penn State and many others, is the crown jewel of the group. Rated the seventh-best guard and the 107th prospect overall, the 6'4", 321-pound mauler has the potential to anchor Ohio State's offensive line in the coming years.

Ed Warinner, who was named the Offensive Line Coach of the Year by Football Scoop for the second time in three years, has built something special in Columbus.

Defensive Line

6 of 9

Porter Gustin, 4-Star Defensive End

Jashon Cornell, 4-Star Defensive End *

Dre'Mont Jones, 4-Star Defensive End

Robert Landers, 3-Star Defensive Tackle

Joshua Alabi, 3-Star Defensive End

Rashod Berry, 3-Star Defensive End

DaVon Hamilton, 3-Star Defensive Tackle

Perhaps Urban Meyer has a thing for recruiting defensive linemen.

The Buckeyes' 2015 class will be absolutely loaded with big men for the defensive front. The group is currently headlined by Jashon Cornell, a 4-star defensive end who is already enrolled at Ohio State. That will change on signing day when Meyer pulls one of the biggest surprises of the day, nabbing 4-star standout Porter Gustin from USC.

The interior will need a boost with the departure of Michael Bennett, putting pressure on Robert Landers and DaVon Hamilton to step up.

Linebacker

7 of 9

Justin Hilliard, 5-Star Linebacker

Jerome Baker, 4-Star Linebacker

Nick Conner, 4-Star Linebacker *

The highest-rated member of Ohio State's 2015 recruiting class—Justin Hilliardwill boost an improving linebacker unit.

The 5-star stud out of Cincinnati is rated the second-best outside linebacker and No. 34 prospect overall, and since his commitment to the Buckeyes in July, he has been one of the most vocal recruiters on the ground level for Meyer.

Hilliard will be joined by 4-star standouts Jerome Baker and Nick Conner, both of whom were rated as Top 10 prospects in the state of Ohio. Baker's verbal pledge was a big one for the Buckeyes, who stole him away from Florida in the wake of Will Muschamp's struggles and termination.

Defensive Back

8 of 9

Eric Glover-Williams, 4-Star Cornerback

Denzel Ward, 4-Star Cornerback

Jamel Dean, 4-Star Cornerback *

Joshua Norwood, 3-Star Cornerback

Damon Arnette, 3-Star Cornerback

One of Urban Meyer's top goals is to secure the best talent Ohio has to offer, and signing Eric Glover-Williams and Denzel Ward was key to that achievement this year.

Glover-Williams (fourth) and Ward (ninth) are both rated Top 10 prospects in the state, and they'll provide the depth Meyer was looking to build at cornerback in this year's class. The Buckeyes lose Doran Grant to graduation, but they'll have a host of playmakers with this group joining the fold alongside Eli Apple, Gareon Conley, Damon Webb and Marshon Lattimore.

Damon Arnette, who is currently committed to South Carolina, will flip on national signing day. The Buckeyes have ramped up their recruitment of Arnette after Carlton Davis decommitted, and the chance of joining the reigning national champs will be too strong for him to pass up.

Specialist

9 of 9

Liam McCullough, 2-Star Long Snapper

Long snappers don't garner too many headlines on the recruiting trail, but Urban Meyer showed how important they are by offering Liam McCullough a scholarship last February. The 2-star prospect received offers from Wisconsin and Kentucky, but after camping at all three schools, he pulled the trigger and committed to Ohio State.

If a school does offer a long snapper, McCullough is the kind of guy who would be on the receiving end. The 6'2", 213-pound specialist is rated the No. 3 long snapper in the country.
