Super Bowl 2015: Patriots vs. Seahawks Box Score Prediction After Media Day

Chris RolingJan 28, 2015

The 24-hour break is over, NFL bettors.

Those with experience when it comes to betting on the Super Bowl know the deal—media day is a circus in which little information concerning the matchup is the focal point.

Besides, for all of the hoopla surrounding the event, it is no different from any other press conference in the week leading up to the game. Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots remain as mum as usual. The Seattle Seahawks are their brash selves, via many words or almost none at all.

About media day.

There was the silly. Belichick revealed quite an eye-opening bit of info thanks to an interested investigative reporter, per NFL Network:

Marshawn Lynch, well, just look:

Rob Gronkowski even recited some Katy Perry in anticipation of her halftime performance:

There was also serious talk about the matchup, as hard as that is to believe.

Perhaps one of the more interesting notes came from Tom Brady himself. Thanks to the addition of cornerback Brandon Browner this past offseason after three years in Seattle, Brady believes the veteran corner's experience will help him better prepare for Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and others:

It is certainly something to take into consideration when it comes time to place bets.

These sorts of details become lost in the wind when the world would rather focus on something such as Deflategate. If Brady is even at a slight advantage as a result, his battle with the league's top-ranked pass defense will be even more interesting.

See, the game itself is not entirely lost on those in attendance at media day.

Prediction

SEATTLE, WA - JANUARY 18: Garry Gilliam #79 of the Seattle Seahawks celebrates after catching a pass for a touchdown on a fake field goal during the third quarter of the 2015 NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers at CenturyLink Field on Janu

Bettors casual and hardcore alike can use the above table as a guide to success in the Super Bowl box-score game, in some circles known as Super Bowl Squares.

The course of the game really writes itself.

Both teams tout plenty of big-game experience, but look for the Patriots to jump ahead in the first half as the two sides feel each other out.

Much of this has to do with the fact the Patriots can somewhat unexpectedly come out of the gate and smack the Seahawks in the mouth. The Brady-Gronkowski connection is nice, but think more about back LeGarrette Blount.

The 6'0", 250-pound bruiser just rushed for 148 yards and three scores in the AFC Championship Game. If Seattle has shown a weakness against the rush this year, it is against bigger backs, which is perhaps why Blount says "They're not immortal. They can be beaten," per ESPN.com's Mike Reiss.

The second half is when to predict things back in Seattle's favor, though.

Halftime adjustments are a trademark of these defending-champion Seahawks. Russell Wilson's clutch factor is something that is impossible to ignore, too. Perhaps coach Pete Carroll put it best, or as close as one can get to an explanation:

Wilson was somewhat of an afterthought in last year's Super Bowl. His team jumped out to an early lead, removed the pressure and Wilson's two touchdown passes with the game already in hand did not come until the second half.

Times change, though.

In the NFC Championship, Wilson turned around the worst game of his career, perhaps at any level, with clutch throws in the fourth quarter and into overtime, culminating in the game-winning heave.

New England is not going to be the first team to slow Lynch all season. Sprinkle in some late-game heroics from Wilson, who is now ready for the responsibility, and it seems best to roll with the Seahawks late.

Prediction: Seahawks 27, Patriots 24
