Nets Reject Nuggets' Offer for Lopez Including McGee
Monday, Feb. 2
ESPN's Marc Stein reported details of the Nuggets' failed attempt to land the Nets' Lopez:
On Jan. 25, Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated reported Denver would include JaVale McGee in a potential trade, which supported what Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski first reported on Jan. 16.
On Jan. 22, Christopher Dempsey of the Denver Post reported the Nuggets were exploring packages to land Lopez.
The Nuggets would likely welcome any chance to get Lopez after dealing Timofey Mozgov away to Cleveland for two first-round picks. Mozgov has thrived with the Cavaliers, while Denver continues to struggle to defend the paint and find interior scoring, both of which Lopez would help with.
McGee a Trade Asset for the Future?
Sunday, Jan. 25
McGee hasn't played in many games over the past season-plus in Denver, not even coming close to the value he promised when signing a four-year, $44 million contract.
A stress fracture in his left leg sidelined him for all but five games in 2013-14, and an aggravated muscle near his left tibia sidelined him for a prolonged period of time earlier this season.
Next season is the last on McGee's current deal, so perhaps Brooklyn is considering McGee as a future trade asset amid his contract year. Otherwise, this move would be tough for the Nets to make considering they have limited draft picks for the foreseeable future and a legitimate star in Lopez when he's healthy.
