Manchester United Transfer News: Reds Must Give in to Adnan Januzaj Loan Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenJan 16, 2015

Louis van Gaal has reportedly told Adnan Januzaj he won't be allowed to leave the club on loan in the January window, and the Manchester United boss is making a mistake not listening to the persistent transfer rumours.

According to the Daily Mirror's David McDonnell, the 19-year-old has been told he must "fight for his place" in United's starting XI, rather than spend the next few months on loan at a different club:

"

Adnan Januzaj has been told he must stay and fight for his place at Manchester United.

Disillusioned Januzaj, who has become a peripheral figure at the Old Trafford giants this season under new manager Louis van Gaal, will not be allowed out on loan in the current winter transfer window.

Januzaj has been frustrated at his lack of opportunities under Van Gaal, after making 33 appearances under then-boss David Moyes last season.

The Belgium international emerged as one of the club's top talents under David Moyes in the 2013-14 season but has seen few opportunities to make his mark under new boss Van Gaal, starting just four Premier League matches so far, via WhoScored.com.

The lack of opportunities for the youngster led to an ever-intensifying stream of loan rumours, linking him with a move to Moyes' new club, Real Sociedad, per Manchester Evening News' David Lynch. Porto, Juventus and Arsenal were also reportedly interested, according to The Sun's Charlie Wyett.

As noted by Sport Witness, the people surrounding the starlet have been remarkably quiet throughout the past few months:

Whether his entourage is happy with the current status quo or simply working behind the scenes to solve the current impasse is unknown. What we do know is that the latest links between Moyes and Januzaj are no more than speculation, as the Sociedad manager told ESPNFC.com's Andy Mitten (h/t David Lynch):

"

I've read about it but I don't know where it has come from. It hasn't come from me.

Along with Wayne Rooney, Adnan is the best young talent I've worked with as a manager.

He's a wonderful player gifted with great balance and the ability to go past people with little ease. When I see his poise on the ball he has characteristics of Johan Cruyff.

"

When a former manager in charge of a club that could use all the help it can get compares you to Johan Cruyff, one of the top players in the sport's history, you know he wouldn't say no to bringing you in on loan.

So why is Van Gaal not listening? If he believes the young Belgian can help the squad moving forward, why is he not giving him more chances? As shared by FourFourTwo's Sam Pilger, Januzaj possesses the pace the Dutch manager has been begging for:

A lack of consistent minutes has transformed Januzaj from the creative wrecking ball we saw last season to a winger showing his age—nervous on the ball and afraid to take any chances without it. Januzaj needs minutes and not just to further his development. He simply needs to regain confidence.

As it stands, it looks unlikely those minutes will come under Van Gaal. The Guardian's Nooruddean Choudry wonders whether the Dutchman rates his budding star to begin with:

Bleacher Report's Alex Dimond stated the case for a loan deal when discussing the club's transfer window with Ryan Bailey, and he too came to the conclusion Januzaj simply doesn't seem to feature in Van Gaal's plans for the immediate future:

The young Belgian remains one of the world's top talents, a versatile forward with the pace and technique to be a force on the wing and the vision and passing skills to slide inside.

Six months in the Basque Country could only help his progression—more than wasting away on the United bench, at the very least. The youngster is yet to openly discuss a permanent transfer, but if things don't change, one has to wonder how long that will last.

Unless Van Gaal intends to start using Januzaj as a regular contributor in the near future, there's no reason not to allow the teenager to leave the club on a temporary basis. He's too good not to play regular minutes right now, and at his age, it makes no sense not to hand him those six added months of regular football.
