Manchester United Transfer News: Paul Pogba FourFourTwo Interview Fuels Rumours

Tom SunderlandJan 13, 2015

Manchester United fans will be over the moon to hear Paul Pogba still holds an affection for the outfit that handed him his professional debut, this week admitting he still "loves the club."

The French international cut ties with the Red Devils in 2012 under heated circumstances, but in a recent interview with FourFourTwo (h/t 101GreatGoals), he said that there is no bad blood: "I’m impatient. It was the feeling that I had. The coach had faith in me, but didn’t put me on. He said that I was too young. He said: 'Your time will come.' It didn’t come. But it doesn’t mean I will speak ill of Manchester United. I love the club."

It was Sir Alex Ferguson who assured Pogba of his fate, but now that Louis van Gaal is at the helm, perhaps Pogba might be ready to try his hand at Old Trafford once again.

Since moving to Turin, Pogba has evolved from a rough-around-the-edges prospect to one of Europe's most highly rated midfielders, one the Bianconeri will be eager to keep hold of as long as they can.

The Red Devils would assuredly love to welcome their former starlet back, too, given that his elite box-to-box skill set makes him a superb fit as the engine-room presence Van Gaal's squad has been seeking.

Pogba's agent Mino Raiola has also poured fuel on speculation by opening the door to his client's Juve exit when speaking to Italian television station Mediaset (h/t The Independent's Jack de Menezes):

"

It’s normal that he might leave in a year. He is one of the best eight players in the world and the top European clubs like him. We’ve renewed at Juventus and he feels great there, and he is playing very well. Will he leave? It’s up to Juventus, we’ve renewed his contract, we’re happy there but when the right moment comes to leave, we will seize it.

"

If Raiola is to be believed, it would seem only a matter of time before Pogba moves on from the team that gave him his senior springboard, the question being whether or not that will come in 2015.

Nik Postinger of We Play believes an Old Trafford reunion isn't likely, however, identifying Stamford Bridge as a more likely Premier League destination:

Given the amount of clubs likely to be intrigued by any availability, United would struggle to contend alongside some of their European peers, given the club's recent prospects.

At present, Van Gaal's side are merely fighting to return to European football, and missing out on the top four for the second season in succession would immediately damage their chances of landing Pogba.

That being said, the £59.7 million move for Angel Di Maria came with a similar context and United do have the advantage of already holding ties to the 21-year-old.

Bleacher Report's Matteo Bonetti recently discussed the intricate details of Pogba's current standing in Juventus and why the club may be tempted to cash in this year:

As was previously mentioned, a Pogba capture would go a long way in completing the United puzzle, adding to the 2014 acquisitions of Daley Blind and Ander Herrera to give Van Gaal's core a classier feel.

Based on his feelings toward the club, Pogba appears open to the idea of a Red Devils return, but there are many obstacles and battles to be overcome before the club can be considered serious contenders.
