Mo Williams Scores 52 Points to Set Timberwolves' Single-Game Record
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mo Williams scored a franchise-record 52 points in Tuesday's 110-101 road win over the Indiana Pacers, per NBA.com/Stats.
Just the third player in Timberwolves history to hit the 50-point mark, Williams joins Corey Brewer (April 2014) and Kevin Love (March 2012), both of whom scored 51 in their historic outings, per Basketball-Reference.com's play index.
In addition to all the points, Williams added seven assists and four rebounds, with just three turnovers over 44 minutes. He made 19 of his 33 field-goal attempts, including six of his 11 shots from beyond the arc. He also made eight out of nine free-throw attempts to round out a remarkably efficient performance.
Known for his shooting more than his ability to create shots, the 32-year-old Williams had previously never scored more than 44 points in a game, per Basketball-Reference.com. He had just two 40-point performances in his career, with both of them coming during a span of 15 days for the 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers.
Though he's unlikely to reach 50 again, Williams figures to continue his high-scoring ways in the coming weeks with Timberwolves forward Shabazz Muhammad sidelined by an abdomen injury.
Expect Minnesota to lean on Williams and rookie forward Andrew Wiggins, as center Nikola Pekovic and guard Kevin Martin are also dealing with injuries.
