Prediction
After calling my shot at the beginning of the playoffs, sticking to my guns seems like a solid option. Before the first pass was thrown in the postseason, I chose the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, and that's the way it will stay.
Sure, the Seattle Seahawks trounced the Packers in the Week 1 meeting, but neither team is the same. Seattle went through a lull before regaining the No. 1 spot defensively in the NFL and securing the No. 1 seed. Green Bay did the same, but it was the offense that shined with Aaron Rodgers leading the way.
Heading into the rematch in the final NFC game of the year, Packers coach Mike McCarthy referenced his team's improvement, via the team's official Twitter account:
One of the biggest changes for Green Bay is improved weapons around Rodgers. Coming into the season, there was optimism that Randall Cobb would return to form, and he did just that with 99 receptions, 1,403 yards and 12 touchdowns through the regular season and postseason.
Along with Jordy Nelson, who broke the Packers' record for receiving yards this year, the duo has eclipsed the entire Seahawks receiving corps in touchdowns. Below is a look at their statistics compared to each other this year. Paul Richardson's stats were removed since he will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL.
| Seahawks Team | 258 | 3,221 | 19 | 51 | 218.3 | 1,811 |
| Nelson/Cobb | 189 | 2,806 | 25 | 43 | 175.3 | 1,037 |
Add Davante Adams to that elite receiving tandem, and the Packers have a trio that is one of the most difficult to stop in the playoffs. The rookie hauled in seven receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys.
While he might not have that big of an impact, he still makes matchups more difficult for Seattle. Pete Damilatis of Pro Football Focus notes how different Adams makes the offense against the Seahawks:
Matching up with the Packers in the Super Bowl will be the Patriots, who have a history of postseason success. Though they've lost in their last three Super Bowl appearances, these playoffs have looked different already for New England.
The Patriots' official Twitter account notes just how great Bill Belichick has been in January:
Along with Belichick, Tom Brady has also rounded back into playoff form. After falling behind early to the Baltimore Ravens, Brady was unfazed as he led the team back into contention. He then threw a perfect strike to Brandon LaFell late for his eighth game-winning drive in the playoffs.
Not only has the traditional offense been outstanding for Brady and Co., but there was even some trickeration against the Ravens. Julian Edelman, who leads the team in receptions, threw a massive pass to Danny Amendola that drew an interesting reaction from Brady, via the NFL:
New England might need every trick in the book to take down Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts, but it has taken him down three times in the past. During those matchups, the Pats have won by an average of 26 points.
Neither game will be easy for the Patriots or Packers, but the matchup in the Super Bowl will be one to remember. Both have prolific offenses led by quarterbacks who have already won on the stage. Buckle up folks, the next several weeks are going to be fun.
