Pierre Hojbjerg, Bayern Munich Agree to New Contract: Latest Details, Reaction

Talented teenage prodigy Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will get more time to make the grade with Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga giants have agreed a bumper contract extension with the 19-year-old Danish midfielder.

The English version of the club's official Twitter account carries details on the new deal, along with Bayern's immediate plans for Hojbjerg:

The intention to send Hojbjerg out on loan is an interesting one. It's something the club have resisted in the past.

Back in March 2014, Bayern's executive board chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge ruled out any loan, per Bayern's official website (h/t Sky Sports writer Thomas Zocher). That led to some speculation Hojbjerg might leave Bayern.

The player himself hinted at an exit back in November, during an interview with German publication Kicker (h/t Sky Sports). Securing a loan deal for the second half of this season is an indication Bayern know the talented prospect is anxious for more playing time.

That's only natural considering he's made just eight starts and seven appearances from the bench this season, per ESPN FC. Hojbjerg is blessed with the technique and the flair manager Pep Guardiola favours for his quick-paced, possession-based style of play.

However, the Dane is among a clutch of talented youngsters, including fellow midfielder Sebastian Rode, struggling for games. But Hojbjerg will now stick around awhile longer and has been given the chance to prove he merits more attention.
