NFL Playoff Odds 2015: Divisional-Round Picks and Super Bowl Predictions

R. Cory SmithJan 8, 2015

Entering the second week of the playoffs, nearly every top seed is still intact. That leaves some of the best franchises in the NFL competing against one another for the right to make it to the conference championship games.

The one outlier from the top four teams, yet again, are the Baltimore Ravens. Two years removed from a historic Super Bowl run, the Ravens have a chance to completely shake up the AFC with another upset against the New England Patriots.

Prior to the next huge slate of games getting underway, here's a look at the odds, picks and Super Bowl predictions as the divisional round approaches.

Super Bowl Prediction: New England Patriots vs. Green Bay Packers

Coming into the season, the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers were viewed as possible favorites to make the Super Bowl. Despite early woes for both, the two franchises have a great chance to still finish in Glendale, Arizona.

Though they might only have one home game on the slate, the Packers have proved they are one of the best teams at home this season. Peter Schrager of Fox Sports points out how difficult the game might be this weekend:

A win in the divisional round would mean one of two things for Green Bay. Either a trip to play the Seattle Seahawks is in the cards, or it would host the Carolina Panthers. After getting demolished by the Seahawks to start the season, the Packers have a chance to avenge that loss.

During the Week 1 matchup, the offense wasn't quite clicking. Since that point, Eddie Lacy has looked stronger while Randall Cobb has been a consistent target for Aaron Rodgers. The biggest playmaker for Green Bay, however, has been Jordy Nelson, who became the first Packer to eclipse 1,500 yards in a single season.

Even with a large group of wide receivers like Demaryius Thomas and Antonio Brown in the fold, Dan Pompei of Bleacher Report points out he chose Nelson as an All-Pro:

Equipped with one of the best offenses in the league, the Packers will have to match up against the Patriots defense again. After getting the best of New England the first time around, Green Bay won't be as surprising the second time.

Having young talent like Jamie Collins and experienced players such as Darrelle Revis and Vince Wilfork, the Pats have weapons everywhere. Trey Wingo of ESPN points out just how great New England's defense has been in the second halves of games:

Oh, then there's this other guy on the other side of the ball named Tom Brady. He's also bringing his friends named Rob Gronkowski, Brandon LaFell and Julian Edelman. Brady has the ability to spread the ball around or hand it off to one of his bruising backs in LeGarrette Blount or Jonas Gray.

Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports offers more on the effectiveness of Brady in the postseason:

However, that greatness in the playoffs is constantly tested by the Ravens, per ESPN Stats & Info:

Both teams will have to take down teams that have tortured them in the past. For the Patriots, it's the Ravens—who always find ways to beat them in the playoffs—or Peyton Manning coming into Foxborough. The Packers will need to knock off a great road team and the Seahawks in Seattle.

Even given all that, the Patriots won't be able to take down the potent Packers receiving duo and power rushing attack. At the end of the season, it will be the Packers hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in Glendale thanks to their dynamic offense.

Prediction: Packers 34, Patriots 27
