Suso's agent confirmed the rumours in an interview with the Liverpool Echo's James Pearce: "Yes, I can confirm that there is an agreement between Milan and Suso on a four-year contract. There’s a possibility (he will arrive in January). We’ll just have to see what happens between now and the end of the transfer window."
Suso's contract runs out in July, and under current FIFA regulations, foreign clubs are allowed to negotiate a pre-contract with impending free agents.
The 21-year-old saw limited playing time during his career as a Red, making just 21 appearances since arriving in 2010, per Pearce. Manager Brendan Rodgers had high hopes for the youngster and tried to agree to a contract extension last summer, but those talks quickly fell through.
Sky Sports (h/t AC Milan News) believe he could travel to Italy to undergo his medical in the coming days, despite the fact he's still a member of Liverpool's squad:
The Rossoneri were desperate for help in midfield and out wide coming into the January transfer window, but the loan deal for Alessio Cerci means the club can now afford to wait until summer before bringing in Suso.
They'd prefer to bring him into the fold right away, but if Liverpool cannot be persuaded to let the youngster depart now, Milan won't be splashing any cash to speed up the process. Once the pre-contract is signed—with the medical being the only remaining obstacle—he'll join the club in July, regardless of what comes next.
Liverpool lose out on receiving any transfer fee for a young, talented player the club spent years developing, but Suso's entourage will point to his lack of consistent minutes as a good reason to go ahead with this move. The youngster needs a fresh start, and it now looks like he'll be getting exactly that in Milan.
