Liverpool Transfer News: Divock Origi's Dad Speaks, Latest on Suso Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenJan 4, 2015

Rumours Divock Origi is close to terminating his loan with Lille early and returning to Liverpool in January are picking up fast, but according to the Belgium international's father, there have been no talks whatsoever between the two clubs and his son.

According to the Liverpool Echo's James Pearce, the Reds have been discussing a deal worth £3 million to bring the 19-year-old forward to Anfield in the coming weeks.

His father, Mike Origi, refuted such claims in an interview with Het Nieuwsblad, however (quotes in Dutch, translated by the author):

"There have been no talks between the two clubs that we're aware of. We're also not thinking about whether a move would be a good thing or not. As of right now, Divock is staying at Lille for the next six months, and there have been no communications that suggest otherwise."

According to Het Nieuwsblad, Liverpool echo the same sentiments:

"The situation regarding Origi remains exactly the same, there are no ongoing talks and he is staying with Lille until summer, no matter what some newspapers and websites are saying."

Origi has scored three goals in 19 total Ligue 1 appearances for Lille, according to WhoScored.com. While the Reds may be lacking in the scoring department, one has to wonder whether Origi can be the answer right now.

The Liverpool Echo's Kristian Walsh feels the same way:

Bleacher Report's Ryan Bailey and Janusz Michallik recently took a look at Liverpool's biggest transfer needs heading into January, highlighting a lack of creativity in midfield and a consistent finisher up front:

Origi has the potential to be both, combining rare pace and technical ability with an impressive physique. Lille mainly use him in a wide role, but he generally plays as a single striker for Belgium's national team.

The teenager's potential is tantalising, but right now his production doesn't back up the hype. His development with Lille has been steady, but the French club's recent struggles have attributed to Origi's lack of goals. As a result, he doesn't appear to be playing with the same confidence as he did six months ago.

Origi isn't ready to be a game-changer on the Premier League level but could be a solid contributor in the short term, and a stint with the Reds could help him adapt to the pace and physicality of the Premier League.

The January transfer window has only just opened; there's plenty of time left for Liverpool to contact the player and his family and get a deal done.

According to Sky Sport Italia (h/t Football Italia), the arrival of Alessio Cerci means AC Milan will not be making a formal offer for Suso, opting to wait until his contract runs out in the summer:

"

Cerci joined on an 18-month loan deal from Atletico Madrid in exchange for Fernando Torres.

According to Sky Sport Italia and newspaper Libero, this means the Rossoneri are in no rush to get Suso on their books.

Milan have reportedly had a deal with the Spanish talent for many months and he is just waiting to extricate himself from the Liverpool contract, which expires in June.

Rather than pay a sum to have the player now, the Serie A club will instead wait to pick up Suso as a free agent next season.

"

The 21-year-old Spaniard has yet to play a single minute of Premier League football this season but is widely expected to leave the club in the summer. Liverpool would obviously prefer a sale for a low fee in January, clearing some salary off their books and a spot in their senior squad.

Milan were looking for a tricky winger, but with the Italy international joining the club on loan, via beIN Sports, that need has now been filled:

With no official confirmation of a pre-contract, the delay means Liverpool have the chance to convince the youngster to commit to Anfield if they choose to, although his lack of minutes indicates he isn't part of Brendan Rodgers' long-term plans.

No team will likely pay a significant sum for his services in January, so it looks like Suso will in fact be leaving the club on a free transfer in summer.
