Pro Bowl Snubs 2015: Twitter Reacts to This Year's Biggest Omissions

R. Cory SmithDec 23, 2014

Every year around this time, the Pro Bowl players are announced with very few surprises on the list. After all, the athletes who made the team certified themselves as fan favorites throughout the season.

However, there are always a group of inevitable snubs who didn't earn the nod to get drafted to one of the two Pro Bowl teams. Those who didn't land on Santa's nice list this year are left to wonder what they did to miss out on a free trip to Hawaii.

Obvious decisions like Aaron Rodgers and J.J. Watt were both included on the list, but several other deserving players missed the cut. Here's a look at some of those players and the reaction from around the always-entertaining Twittersphere.

Twitter Reaction

One of the biggest question marks coming into the Pro Bowl announcements was whether any of the rookie wide receivers would make the cut. The biggest snub, especially according to Twitter, was Odell Beckham Jr.

The first-year receiver for the New York Giants crushed it late in the season and set the league on fire with more than 100 yards in six games. Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports voiced his thoughts on the decision:

Listed as an alternate for the Pro Bowl, Beckham can still make his way to Hawaii if another receiver can't attend. Jason Romano of ESPN.com believes he will eventually be selected to the rosters:

At the quarterback position, there were several veterans like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady who made the list. However, some of the younger quarterbacks like Russell Wilson were left off.

That snub shocked Adam Lefkoe of Bleacher Report:

Wilson has registered more than 3,000 passing yards for his third straight season along with his 20 touchdowns to just six interceptions. He's also put up career highs with 842 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

The third-year signal-caller is also an alternate but seemed deserving of a Pro Bowl spot. Rather than acting frustrated, he took the decision in stride and congratulated his teammates who did make the cut:

Much like the quarterback position, the other member of the backfield had some notable snubs. Most notably, two running backs from the NFC North missed out with Eddie Lacy and Matt Forte not receiving a nod.

Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com points out a staggering statistic about Forte's stellar season:

The Chicago Bears running back has put together several great games but has been on one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL. Lacy, on the other hand, has been a catalyst for the Green Bay Packers along with Rodgers.

Both tailbacks were huge snubs when taking into account that LeSean McCoy took a spot over both, as Paul Imig of Fox Sports notes:

This isn't necessarily the end of the road for several of the omitted Pro Bowl candidates. There will always be several members of the Super Bowl team who will not be able to make the trip as well as injured players who decline the offer.

Along with those players missing out, there are always those who simply turn down the invitation, like several San Francisco 49ers did last season.

Needless to say, there's no need to riot in the streets if your favorite player missed out. Unless, of course, you're hoping for Jay Cutler to make the cut—because that's just not happening.
