Arsenal Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of December 22
Arsenal dropping two late points at Anfield only confirmed what most Gunners fans already knew: It is essential that they strengthen the defensive part of their squad in January.
In recent weeks, Nacho Monreal, Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy have all been asked to fill in at centre-back. None of that trio has the requisite experience to shine in that position at the highest level. It is an absurd situation.
Arsene Wenger should also be on the lookout for a defensive midfielder to provide cover and competition for Mikel Arteta. Mathieu Flamini no longer looks to be up to the job.
Keep track on this article over the coming week as we check out what potential Christmas presents Wenger is lining up for the Arsenal fans.

Arsenal Eye Up Newcastle Midfielder
1 of 3
Tuesday, December 23
According to John Cross of The Mirror, Arsenal are considering a bid for Newcastle's French international midfielder Moussa Sissoko.
Sissoko is enjoying a terrific season and would add a much-needed injection of power to the Arsenal midfield. However, it's important to stress that he would not solve Arsenal's problem at defensive midfield: he is far from a holding player, roving forward at will.

Lukas Podolski's future is set to be one of the main plot threads of the January transfer window.
Now, Tom Collomosse of the Evening Standard has suggested the German international could be a target for Italian side Roma, as they seek to find a short-term replacement for Gervinho. The former Arsenal striker is set to represent the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations, and Roma require temporary cover.
Arsenal are unlikely to be receptive to a loan deal. If they are to lose Podolski, they'll want cold, hard cash.
Gunners Rumoured to Be Considering Fabio Coentrao

According to Anthony Chapman of The Express, Arsenal are weighing up a £25 million bid for Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao.
That seems hugely improbable. In Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal, Arsenal already have two international left-backs. Other areas of the squad require attention far more urgently.
