Jets Owner Woody Johnson Apologizes After 'Favoriting' Anti-John Idzik Tweet
The "Fire John Idzik" movement appeared to reach its high-water mark Monday before an apology snuffed out its hopes.
The apology, from New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, centered on Johnson's alleged accidental "favoriting" of a tweet that called for the firing of the team's general manager.
Twitter user Jameson posted a screenshot of Johnson's reaction. He interpreted it as a co-sign from the owner:

Johnson later tweeted that the favorite was an accident. He claims he was going through his mentions and unintentionally clicked the favorite button:
"Have to be more careful when scrolling through my Twitter feed. The tweet I most recently favorited was inadvertent.

Accidental favoriting is a real and unfortunate thing. It's akin to haphazardly "liking" a Facebook photo from 2008 while creeping through someone's profile. A deep and visceral terror floods up the spinal cord in the moments after this misstep.
While "unliking" and "unfavoriting" are options for social media users, the damage is done. That person will receive a notification, and you will reap the awkward fruits of your inattentively sown seeds.
For Johnson, however, the click carries more implications than awkwardness.
A substantial subset of disappointed Jets fans have spent time and money calling for Idzik's head. Websites, Twitter accounts and billboards dedicated to removing the team's general manager have sprung up over the last several months.
Any hint that the team's higher-ups are considering a change comes as manna from on high, so it's not surprising Jets fans reveled in Johnson's apparent affirmation of the sentiment:
Change will come in New York. Rex Ryan is all but gone after the Jets (3-11) followed up a .500 season in 2013 by dropping deeply into the AFC East cellar. But whether Idzik will be ousted along with the team's head coach remains unknown.
So interpret Johnson's accidental favorite as you will. I like to believe that, like jokes, every accidental click carries a bit of truth.
You did like that Facebook pic. You just didn't want everyone to know it.
