WWE News: Update on Brock Lesnar Departure Rumours

Elliott BinksDec 16, 2014
"

Get in to get out.

"

This mantra—touted by Brock Lesnar in his 2011 book, Death Clutch—is a creed that the former UFC Champion has lived by throughout his WWE career.

Lesnar first heard the phrase from the late, great Mr. Perfect, and he duly heeded the Hall of Famer’s advice. Just four years after agreeing to the most lucrative WWE developmental deal in professional wrestling history, Lesnar was getting out.

An eight-year hiatus followed, before a triumphant return in April 2012 marked the start of one of the most dominant runs in WWE history.

But that motto that he lived by all those years ago—not to mention the colossal success that he achieved in the Ultimate Fighting Championship—makes the prospect of another exit an ever-lingering factor when it comes to the Beast Incarnate.

So it’s fairly unsurprisingly that such rumours are resurfacing once more.

F4W Online (via Nick Paglino of Wrestlezone) recently reported that “WWE has instructed its merchandise department not to make any new merchandise for Brock Lesnar.”

This is perhaps the biggest clue yet that the WWE doesn’t think that Lesnar will remain with the company once his current deal expires after WrestleMania 31. But more recent news is now suggesting that such prior reports could be false.

Marc Middleton reports that a WWE spokesperson contacted WrestlingInc and claimed that there was “no truth” in the reports surrounding Lesnar’s merchandise.

Restricted to our exclusively external view, it’s incredibly difficult to know for sure what’s really going on in the WWE’s merchandise department. And contrasting stories such as these certainly don’t make matters any easier.

But regardless of what the true situation is, this news is yet another hint that Lesnar may be done with wrestling once more.

Lesnar is expected to be the subject of a bidding war between WWE, UFC and Bellator when his current deal eventually expires. With demand so high—and profits low—it’s going to be incredibly difficult for the sports entertainment juggernaut to hold on to its current champion.

Furthermore, you’ve got to think that Lesnar has unfinished business in the world of MMA after a nasty bout of diverticulitis plagued the end of his initial run. Add to that the buzz of the UFC’s signing of a certain ex-WWE star, and Lesnar must really be getting the itch.

But for all these external considerations, perhaps the most influential factor relates to his current employers. If Lesnar were to remain with the WWE, what’s left for him to achieve?

He’s already defeated the Undertaker’s Streak—arguably the biggest win in pro-wrestling history—while his WWE title win over John Cena was dubbed the most dominant title victory of all time. How on earth is he going to trump that?

So if we look back at this news about Lesnar’s WWE merchandise and consider it beside these other factors, a WWE exit appears all the more likely for the reigning and undisputed WWE heavyweight champion of the world.

While he’s allegedly being advertised for the post-‘Mania Raw, that could be no more than a farewell appearance.

In any case, it’s an interesting story to keep an eye on. There’ll likely be plenty more news to come on Lesnar from here until WrestleMania. But as it currently stands, despite the statement from the WWE spokesperson, the signs are starting to mount that the Beast Incarnate could be on his way out.

Please feel free to share your own thoughts on this one. Will Lesnar remain with the WWE? Do you even want him to? Or will we see the Beast back in the Octagon next year? Comment below with your opinions on any of these matters, as well as the article itself.
